Wildcard hosting means host that enable wildcard dns. You can point xxx.domain.com or anything.domain.com to a specific page. This is useful that you don't want ppl to get the error404 page.
The url redirection service using script like
Mylounge requires wildcard dns. You can add as many domains under the script.
anything
xx0.domain.com
xx1.domain.com
xx3.domain.com
would resolve to the main database of
Mylounge - and will be redirected/masked to the registered members' url.
xx0.domain.com = database - frwd/mask -
http://geocities.com/mysite/index.php
xx1.domain.com = database - frwd/mask -
http://tripid.com/mysite/index2.html
xx3.domain.com = database - frwd/mask -
http://alexa.com/mysite/index3.htm
You can enable wildcard dns. So any dead links
xxx.mysite.com would resolve to
www.mysite.com
Other uses :-
*Marketing ppl use this method by submitting link such buystocks.mydomain.com, cheapstocks.mydomain.com and submit the links to search engines.. but actually they are using wildcard dns and the url ended up at a specific page- Save time by creating tonnes of wildcarded subdomains.

instead of manually creating subdomain entries and page.
*Just enable it to prevent 404error page. So anything or typo would end up at your main page.
We did offer this service for one client before. Too bad spammers used the service to and start sending spam using the url. Some ignorant ppl reported the masking url (thinking that the domain is where the spammer resides.) ended up the datacenter (you know la how stern US datacenter with SPAM report.. "You pull that domain out or we yank the plug."..
Maybe local datacenter is not that stern.. I found porn sites (yes but not telekom ones) and MP3s in one of our local DCs. So our local datacenter would be a good idea to run this service.
