No problem with that. adsense and affiliate program can live together in your site. The statement you read is for Google Adsense competitor like AffiliateSensor , AffiliateText, Proogle, Adhearus, BidClix, Findit-Quick.
For me, I don't like promoting affiliate program from Amazon, commission is not good, very small. Find another affiliate program that give high commission.
