Hey limcs, I've also notice the huge difference as well. Do you know any very good reputation company which their host reside locally?
As mention priority on Speed, Customer Support, Reliability and less on Specification.
As I'm a businessman, every email lost could cost me several thousands of dollars.. and when host is down and mails lost in cyberspace.. I would go berzerk
