What problem with our Streamyx ADSL services?

Question One: Do you understand what the difference between Megabyte (MB) and Megabit (Mb)? Question Two: When you sign up for Streamyx ADSL services, do you know you are binding into a one year contract if you purchase your own modem?

If you know the answer for both the questions, you are categorized into a “smart” IT consumer. How many subscribers had actually read through and understand the term and condition section under the Streamyx ADSL application form? Did you informed by the Streamyx agent or reseller upon activate your Streamyx ADSL account, you are agreed to bind into one year contract if you purchase your own modem? I was not been told when I was subscribing the Streamyx ADSL services.

One of the subsidiary company under my previous employment was a Streamyx ADSL reseller; therefore I understand subscriber is bind into one year contract upon activation of Streamyx ADSL. IF YOU CANCELLED THE SERVICES FOR EXAMPLE IN MONTH SEVEN, YOU STILL BE CHARGE FOR THE MONTH EIGHT TO TWELVE.

Generally, most of the PC user do not aware the difference between MB and Mb. They are look-a-like for most of the PC user. Therefore when you browse through streamyx website, promotion brochure or even application form, RM88 package download spend is 1 Mb, commonly subscriber first impression is Mb is the definition for Megabyte. Although under the term and condition section, the Mb is clearly Defined as Megabit, but how many PC user or subscriber understand how is work, what did it try to tell and “what is the actual transfer rate of 1 Mb”. Subscriber always think that they can download file at the speed of one Megabyte per second.

Technically, Mb is short for Megabit and is 1,000,000 bits. Mb commonly usually expresses the rate at which data is transferred, for example, “10/100 Mbps” represent 10 or 100 Megabits per second, the common speed of a standard network card. MB is short for Megabyte. A MB is a common measurement used with computer storage media. A Megabyte is equal to 1,048,576 bytes or 1,048 kilobytes.

So what is the relation between MB and Mb? Put it simple, 1 Megabyte equivalent to 1,000,000 bits which is equal to 125,000 bytes or 125 kilobytes.

When you subscribe for Steamyx ADSL services, 1 Mb is not Megabyte but Megabit, therefore you maximum download spend is 125 kilobytes per second. My question is did you aware of this? Have you been informed during sign up?

I don’t know about you, but I was not informed during application. Confusion tactic had been used due to our lack of PC knowledge, low awareness and most important our ignorant.

Current Issue – Peer to Peer Blocked

Started from Wednesday afternoon (4 October 2006), I discovered all my P2P (peer-to-peer) application is not working; mean all my downloading and uploading activities using P2P application had been block by Streamyx. I call up my friends who are heavy P2P users they told me they had the same problem. I launched report to Streamyx technical department but no explanation or solution is given.

Peer-to-peer (referred to as P2P) is a type of transient Internet network that allows a group of computer users with the same networking program to connect with each other and directly access files from one another's hard drives. Napster and Gnutella are examples of this kind of peer-to-peer software. Major producers of content, including record companies, have shown their concern about what they consider illegal sharing of copyrighted content by suing some P2P users.

Meanwhile, corporations are looking at the advantages of using P2P as a way for employees to share files without the expense involved in maintaining a centralized server and as a way for businesses to exchange information with each other directly.

How Does Internet P2P Work?

The user must first download and execute a peer-to-peer networking program. (Gnutellanet is currently one of the most popular of these decentralized P2P programs because it allows users to exchange all types of files.) After launching the program, the user enters the IP address of another computer belonging to the network. (Typically, the Web page where the user got the download will list several IP addresses as places to begin). Once the computer finds another network member on-line, it will connect to that user's connection (who has gotten their IP address from another user's connection and so on).

Non of the Internet Services Provider in the world had blocked the usage of P2P application. WHY ARE WE BLOCKED! WE HAD PAID FOR THE ADSL SERVICE. @f#&u$@!C$#$kkk!
