2007 will be the year of commoditisation - everything which you now think of bespoke will be a commodity by the end of the year.

Think SEO being build in to all major blog, forum etc. packages (this is well underway), think webdesign being like getting your house repainted - simple brief and fast, predictable results. Think more and more automation in all parts of our business. Even advertising prices will plummet with increasing competition from YPN and MSN to Adsense and co. A three-way war will very quickly reduce both CPC and RPC to a tenth of what it is now.

There will be two results of this, the first is that the number of people the sector can support will reduce dramatically as profit margins are slashed. The second is that the entry level will be raised substantially - it will be more and more difficult to be a web-professional without professional training and constantly keeping up with the latest trends in technical developments.
