You can put picture next to Adsense ads but u need to separate it by line or border. In another word it cannot be blended with the ads. There must be something that split between the ads and picture...
Putting image is a nice trick to gain higher CTR but you must be careful when playing with it. Put a wrong images and your visitor might feel cheated and there goes another good round of visitor.
