I entirely agree with you. I've optimized a website a couple of years ago and it still enjoys the traffic without even doing any off-page optimization. Isn't this amazing? Why should anyone pay uninterruptedly to Google or other search engines just to be seen while you could get to the top even by paying less?
Actually, this is the point where the value of organic SEO is known to us!
