Often if you read the TOS, you will find that there will be restrictions, maybe such as no uploading warez or video or music files etc etc or no using the space provided as file storage etc etc. In effect, you end up not being able to use the space fully. But people just like to think they are getting large amounts for little money.

Yes, that would be the norm. The fact that space and data transfer are the same itself shows that those figures aren't realistic. Then there may be some that offer 500GB space and 100GB data transfer which becomes even more odd.

You are always advised to do your own backups whether your host does them or not.
