Why Exabytes domain cost more?

I usually get a domain for RM35 or less from most webhost but why does Exabytes domain cost RM55.
What's the difference and does the additional cost or feature worth anything? I mean, I have no problem buying cheaper domain and I'm sure most people would go for a cheaper one at anytime right.

I've think so long... don't they want to business in selling domain? I mean, Exabytes has lots of webhosting customers so I guess its easy to attract some of their client to buy domain right from exabytes itself.
but considering the price, who is going to buy it? waterfish?

Hi Exabytes, I would like to request for cheaper domains from you. Thanks.

If Exabytes is able to offer 300GB strorage space, it should not be a problem to offer cheaper domains.

Looking forward to hearing such good news soon.

Again, appeal to Exabytes.
Can the domain name price be reduced? When?
Thanks a lot. Appreciated.

Domain Name is actually a none making money business. If one is selling a TLD Domain (com / net / org / info / biz) at RM30-40, he is not making any money from domain name. If he is selling RM40 - 55, Yes, he is making few bucks from selling domain name.

In Business, we needs to make profit in order to survive.

So we do some math:

Say Domain Cost is RM38

Selling 10 Domains @ RM40 = RM400
Cost of 10 Domains = RM380

Margin of selling 10 domains: RM400 - RM380 = RM20

If selling 10 Domains @ RM55 = RM550
Cost of 10 Domains = RM380

Margin of selling 10 domains: RM550 - RM380 = RM170

If we were to sell domains @ RM40, we need to sell 8 times more domain name in order to generate the same profit of selling at RM55.

And the support work load of handling 80 domains and 10 domains is different.

Besides that, Exabytes already selling hosting plans at a very attractive price, so let us earn back few ringgits in domain name la.

Furthermore, RM55 and RM40 isn't a huge different. 1 cup of Starbuck is gone.

Why save this small amount of RM15 while you need to have the hassle of dealing with 2 different providers (web host & domain registrar)?

And, the more money you spent with Exabytes, higher the chances for you to win in our Host & Win campaign.
Exabytes Host & Win Contest
(We have gave away hundred units of iPod til today)

And lastly, who say Exabytes Domain Name is Expensive? If you recall back, we do have Domain Crazy Sale which we are selling all TLD domain at RM0.99 (YES! 99 cents). Don't ask me when we will do this again. :P

And currently, we are having a promorion on MY Domains, Only RM50/year when you register .com.my / net.my / org.my domains for 2 years. Need business supporting documents.

Oooops ... I reveal too much of business secrets!

It's not really a reflection of the pricing by exabytes, but I can tell you that I would never buy a domain from my webhosting company. You never know the future, even the most stable webhosting company can end up bankrupt. Having your domain with someone else means that you can change your nameservers to point at new hosting and get your site up and running fast.

a registrar also can shut down or screw up his business any time. remember regsiterfly issue happened lately?

The most important things are:
1) Make sure you have the login to your domain registrar's control panel, even you register your domain name from your web host. (Ask from your web host if you don't have)

2) Make sure the registrant contact as listed in your domain WHOIS is you, not your web host, not your web designer or anyone else.

To check your domain whois: Whois lookup and Domain name search

yeah, the most important thing is that you can switch to any nameserver at anytime.

well but why have a good margin price but not having the market volume. I'm sure most people would go for the lowest price when registering a domain name. Isn't that if you get a higher volume, you actually get higher cumm profit?
Some people would be registering a few domain. I have registered a few myself and I'm planning to register a few more so that few bucks do make some difference

Going for the lowest price is most of the time why people get burn. :P

And as mentioned in my earlier post,

To get the same profit of RM170, where a domain cost is RM38,

If we are selling domains at RM40, we need to sell 85 domains.
As now we are selling at RM55, we only need to sell 11+ domains.

Think the other way round, a job which you work 11 hours, you get paid RM170, and another job which you need to work 85 hours for the same pay. Which one will you choose?

Of course, at Exabytes, maximizing profit is not our main consideration when we deciding our pricing. We have to justify and take a balance where we can cover our basic operation cost so that our business can survive in long run, and we can hire more quality personels to serve our valued clients.

seriously, we cant compare "registering a domain yourself" and "registering a domain through a company".

register yourself = cheaper, but have to manage everything yourself, support yourself

register with a company = alittle more expensive, but the company will manage (transfer, migrate, change settings, etc) and support you

if you're IT guy, go ahead and register yourself...if you're non IT guy, better pay alittle more to get better support and maintennance.

my 2 cents.
