Help - review the url/domain name for the forum

For the below, which one is better?
or better naming convention suggested?

forum.[name-a].[name-b]

or

forum.[name-a].[name-b]\v[version]

or

www.[name-a].[name-b]\forum

or

www.[name-a].[name-b]\forum\v[version]

or

www.[name-a].[name-b]\v[version]

if possible make it short n simple..

for example -> forum.domainname.com

so i would go for forum.[name-a].[name-b]

It's easier Just create a sub-dir.

I second sub.domain.com.

The reason is, if in the future, your forum traffic grows and you need to split your web and forum into 2 servers, sub.domain.com will be easier. You may just point sub.domain.com host (A) record to the new server.
