Hi,
Eric here. The name server you mentioned i think is the DNS right? DNS is some kind of zone file for you to locate where ur domain name A record go, MX record, CNAME and so on So is like a passport to you, once your passport lost, definately you can't go to the destination you want. Same thing, if your DNS down, you can't go any where but error from the browser. Some suggestion of mine here to solve your problem, just might help only ya. Try ping and do a trace route test on all your DNS server, i beleive they provide you more then 1 name server. Check on the time to reach your nameserver from your pc. If the name server is located oversea, example US, the time is around 1xx-2xx ms...if around 3xxms...u have to send them a request for changing the name server. Slow connection of name server will to some problem when you trying to access. Hope it helps. Thanks Eric |

Good question. But too bad I couldn't have any accurate answer for it.
There was a time when GoDaddy is down for 3 days. All of my domains with them also down. The same thing happened to DomainSite few days ago, but all the domain names are still accessible. |

so its now its still an unknown answer... maybe some network expert especially on domain replication and maybe some hosting provider can provide a more appropriate answer... |

i know what the nameserver do and the A, CName, MX records are just translation from name to ip... but that not what i looking for. actually what i'm wondering here is does the domain registrar nameserver(overseas one, where we purchase our domain) could bring some negative effect when its down.
nevermind... i think i found my answer already... its all depends on how well the domain name propagated and cache within the nameserver in our country... there still have a chance of not locating our domain if the overseas registrar when capult or outbound link terminated. for more info... take a look on this informative articles on how do dns work and how it searches a domain from the point of browser to the root server.. read it at...> Howstuffworks "How Domain Name Servers Work" the reason for this question is to provide my customers' a very solid answers on when to choose a ".com.my" or ".com" name based on their biz model and geographical market segment... ![]() Last edited by iamfreelancer; 01-09-2007 at 02:20 PM. |

yes, freelancer... u are right...
i remember last time when i study i also learn that the function of the name server is a list of domain name and it IP address on the other hand, when we type in www.andomain.com, 1st thing we will direct to the ISP DNS, match the domain and the IP address, then only redirect us to the correct server... When we update the DNS in our domain CPanel, it will propagate to all the DNS server around the world..each of the DNS already has our record (domain and hosting server ip)
