This is not true, a few other 2LD domain exists from the ancient days of Internet availability in Malaysia. UTM for example has Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. 2LD ceased to be available after some time and now is available to be registered again.

.com still brings in more $$$ and google will index them easier.

.my... well, I've registered two domains, pending approval sometime before March, before the SLD gets opened to public. I must say however that mynic has done a poor job so far in hyping up its value, unlike promoters for .info, .biz, and .mobi or even .ws, .cc, .tv, .cn, .md and .in etc.

I have offers to sell my domains but am keeping then. Domains are the cheapest real estate on the planet. ($7 per yr-how can you beat that!)

I always tell those people--- you can have the best websites but if your domain names su-cks, who is going to find? and you will have to spend 10x times on marketing $$$

And msian/asian countries(except for taiwan, and a few) will never be domain controller because average msians cannot afford to spend buying 100+ domains.

chrisgoh, if you have 200+ or 200000+ domains but if they ain't making money for you, it still means nothing.

And owning a sucking domain name with good website/content on it doesn't make you spend 10x of effort for advertising if you know the NICHE well and know your target visitors. To me the key is always knowing your "niche". I have bought some bad domain names on my early year of 'joining' this industry, but i've built up pretty good websites on them and get decent amount of traffics+pr and sold them for decent price. I haven't paid a cent advertising.

Anyway, as far as i know .my needs approval from MIMOS first. If you ask what for, ask them. I do think owning a .my is kinda cool at first, but after knowing about the price AND the approval thingy, the interest's gone.
