I tried getting a com.my domain, but it seems impossible as I do not live in Malaysia. My host told me they can arrange it for me for a whoppin' RM1000,- a year. Kinda expensive wouldn't you say?

Anyways, is there a way for me (non-Malaysian) to own a .com.my domain?

I've searched the godaddy's etc, but no luck finding this domain there...?

The .com.my domain is only available to Malaysian companies.

Who is the host who is wanting to charge you such a large price? That is 10 times the normal price. Also, it is likely that the host will register the domain under some Malaysian company's name (maybe a partner or something). The registrant of the domain will then not be under your name.

.com.my, you'll need a Malaysian partner. You're not in the EU now! (Sorry, private joke. Someone said something similar to me in Scotland once, then sacked me. I'd complained about working conditions.)

Are you sure you want a .com.my? I'm not convinced they're very popular here, except with local franchises of global companies.

Must be almost time for a poll! I reckon WMM have it right: webmastermalaysia.com is a far better domain name for targeting malaysians than webmaster.com.my would be. Maybe you'd be better off with houbenmalaysia.com?

There's nothing wrong with .com.my, I presume its an issue with momentum: there aren't that many great local product and service suppliers in the .my domain. MYNIC's registration procedure wasn't that tortuous, and wasn't that expensive, but it doesn't take a lot to kill something that's only just hatched. I imagine a lot of small companies that wanted to jump on the Internet bandwagon, saw the MYNIC rules, and then saw $5 at HouDaddy just-click-here, and immediately forgot the jalur gemilang.

Ha! Just had a thought - maybe it's a domainhack issue: com.my might have communist associations! I notice pinko.com.my isn't registered - maybe a good domain for a bar, cafe or nightclub?

I know a registrar offers foreigners .com.my n .my registrations at a very low price..Cheapest in the market.pm me for details n price.

proxy registration is not legal. in case the domain was used to do something nasty: scamming/phishing/spamming, the registrant handle (company reside in malaysia) is responsible for that. those offering 'express registration' service are taking the risk. unless you know the person/customer very well..

That is the reason why resellers charge higher price for proxy registration because they are taking the risk .every mynic reseller is taking the risk doing that.
