Transfer of domain name ownership as well as hosting

Hi.. I would like to know the procedure of transfering domain ownership and also changing the domain hosting. One domain currently hosting at hosting company in UK and is owned by one company. But now the domain will be transfered to me and I want to host the domain at a local hosting company.. can anyone of you advise? Thanks

First of all, don't mix domain and hosting together. They are two different thing.

To transfer domain:
you can ask your new domain registrar to transfer your domain to them. Most of them will do the job for you. Just pay the domain renew fee(one year). Transfer fee is normally free of charge.

To switch webhosting
First of all, make a backup of your web hosting account. Then, register a new hosting account. If your current hosting account and new hosting account are using same hosting control panel(example: cpanel), you can copy your current account to new server without sweat. Ask the new hosting provider to do it for you. Normally, it is free also

After new hosting provider has copied your old hosting account to their server. You need to point your domain name to the new server. Get the nameservers setting from your new hosting provider and make the changes at your domain control panel.

Done.

Hope these helps.

Sorry.. I mean the domain hosting or DNS hosting not the webhosting. Is it that the ownership will be transfered to me first, then I request the currrent DNS hosting company to change to another one of my choice? How is that done? steps?

hftey: I answered both domain and hosting transfer...

1. Find the new domain hosting company you want.
2. Request the new domain hosting company to transfer your domain to host under them.
3. Pay for the domain renew fee
4. The new domain hosting company will transfer your domain to host under them. (you may need to edit your domain information to make the process easier)
5. done.

You can do the transfer manually, but it is rather troublesome. My advice is let the domain registrar do it, since it is FOC.

If you mean to change the domain name to point to a new server, just goto the domain control panel and change the nameservers setting to point to the new server's namesevers.

Does this help?
If no, please explain further about the situation and what you want to do.

yup besides using CPanel to transfer (i love this one) you can also request the host to transfer all your files for you. Normally they have dedicated line and they could help you to ftp to your account in your old Web host and transfer to your new account. This is a big pain relief if u are using dial up... Just a matter of using unutilized computer resources and and company dedicated line. Good Luck

To my understanding, he asked two question. First, how to change the ownership of domain(you have answered it). Second, how to change domain hsoting to another registrar.
