Why have nobody ever said that my domains are cheap?

I sell .info domains for only US$3.59 per year (new registrations), which only comes up to about RM14 (estimated).

for those buying domain as an investment .INFO doesn't worth a value of buy. just like .TK, it's like picking a cheap t-shirt at megasales, buy 1 free 1. what's blooming right now is .com, .net (and .com.my) - unbelieveable? - namepros.com says it all

yeah but info could still be some good use, for example if ur making a kl nightlife guide u could go for klnightlife.info or something like that, the tld "info" makes it clear that it's an information site.

can get .com for under RM15 also at http://webpod.net/
(with any non-domain purchase) - US$3.99 to be exact.
(REALLY AT LOSS, since ICANN FEES is $6, but as a treat to customers).

.info also well under RM20, even if purchased independently.

BONUS: if you spend over RM200 for anything (or in combination, ie. multiple domains, plus SSL from RM110/yr etc.) on this site, I'll throw in free Linux (Fedora Core 2 on Pentium 3GHz HT, with 1MB DDR2 RAM) web hosting... how about that?

sirxl: I'm sure .info can be googled alright, just like .biz, .ws, .tk, .my -- these are all legacy TLDs -- unlike .sex, .xxx, .shop etc.

Filuren: for COMMERCIAL use, .info so far has been much cheaper compared to .tk.

.tk is free, .info is worth a little

and one more thing.. has anybody noticed .ws TLD is becoming a MLM program? People buy .WS just to build downline for money and not developing websites. is that sick or just a new mlm idea? www.website.ws

Again, filuren, .tk is free for 'limited' use and MUST HAVE HITS or taken away from you (similar to pathetic hotmail/y!mail). You never own it while it's free -- not even under your name, thus can be taken away any time, apalagi kalau nak jual. for full use, you have to fork ~$10/year for a minimum of TWO YEARS => $20 to start! -- read the fineprints ;-) Compare that with .info for under $5/year currently and no multiple years requirement. .info names can worth more than a little. newyork.info if i'm not mistaken used to sell for ~$10K (that's nearly RM40,000 -- can buy you a new car!). And it happens several times, ppl who own .info names let theirs expired (perhaps, due to this 'not worth/worth little' stereotype, and those very domains later grabbed by others an successfully auctioned for thousands of dollars!!

my.ws MLM program has been around really long, almost since the existence of .ws as a commercial publicly available .ccTLD with a 'worldsite' and later, 'website' gimmick. Aku dah kenai pengasas syarikat pentadbirnye, yakni GDI yg diterajui oleh Mike & Alair many years earlier -- masa depa kon orang dengan prog ala-MLM satu lagi dlm bidang telco -- dikenali sebagai freedomstarr. (sejak 1997 -- tiru Cognigen, in fact, dibantu oleh programmer yg sama). Program tu gagal selepas pengasasnye virtually cabot, dengan semua keuntungan awal untuk sambung dengan bisnes domain yg lebih byk hype nye masa tahun-tahun emas dotcom.

sekarang ni, .ws pun dah jadi desperate (tak cukup ahli, kira mcm gagal la selepas baru je beberapa tahun jalan penuh brouhahas, as usual) -- promo mlm dia on setiap domain yg tak belum didaftar -- kira hijack mcm insident Verisign SiteFinder.

sebagai long-time industry participant (since 1998), aku benar2 tak rekomen .ws. tapi, kalau dah icann punya public gTLD semua dah abis, dan korang nak juga keyword tertentu, .cc (promoted by msian-owned company) ok gak. otherwise, the fresh gTLDs .info, .biz, and .name are good enough (if you cannot get .com/net/org).

Anyway, guess what: I've sold one original** .ws for over RM10K ;-) yes, i've sold several .info too, not as much, but at decent multiple-fold profits. So, all the best.... may luck be with you. or the force, whatever.

well yes, .tk is not worth buying if you're paying for it. microsoft doesn't even want his .tk

And if .ws are used for multilevel earning, that's something new on the internet. so are you saying they failed? it's just something not right for me.. to buy .ws just to build downline spoils the reputation of .ws and other domain name TLD in times to come. it's not a cheap TLD anyway.

while .info is selling so cheap, i admit has it's potential but it's been wrongly understood that .info is a 'cheap' domain. if you own a web address that uses .info, i suggest you rather to use mysiteinfo.com rather than mysite.info; same goes for .name, .travel, .hotel, .fm etc related.

in short, domain name plays the important first impression of your website (or your business)

agree & disagree... if you'd ask me, which is better between newyork.info and newyorkinfo.com; or malaysia.info vs malaysiainfo.com, or which worth more, ie. potentially resold for higher assuming negligible traffic -- i'd say the .info ones.

in this case, the length of the domain name plays a better factor, compared to its TLD extension weight. Would you prefer to have something like SevereAcuteRespiratorySyndromeInfo.com ? or SevereAcureRespiratorySyndrome.info ?

.info has its own advantage for campaigns like, SuperMLMLaunching.info , USMcanteenday.info etc.

.info by itself stresses the less commercial nature of the website, similar, but not as extreme as .org. (traditionally used to indicate not-for-profit nature). In fact, .info is a better indicator for less-commerciality than .org today, since most commercial entities tend to also acquire .net and .org along with .com counterparts.

btw, .travel and .hotel are not legacy ICANN-approved gTLD -- not by default, indexed in legacy ROOT SERVERS -- require special program to be installed in your PC to be recognized/translated to IP address.

I'd have to be a fan of .fm though. era.fm is a great example on the success of marketing synergy between traditional broadcast medium and internet. in the case of radio broadcasting that's quite synonymous with .fm frequency, .fm names definitely sounds better than for instance, era.com, era.net etc. So are .tv and .md. Though, in terms of pricing and technical advantage (if you don't have massive advertising power like Astro/Era.fm or Media Prima), if you can still get .com, you should definitely settle or at least reserve .com too. For certain, tv3.tv is much better than www.tv3.com.my which would otherwise loses a large portion of its traffic to someone else's tv3.com.

.bank would useful too, if approved, so, maybank.com.my doesn't loses so much of its traffic and sensitive corporate/customer info to maybank.com squatter.

.name.my for RM40/year? forget it... just get .name if you're desperate.. I'd like to get .my without .com/net suffix-prefix though.

radio station uses .fm as it's common for them to say "something dot fm" on the air. but how many people will really type in the word ".fm" on their keyboard? (.fm is expensive too). well let's just say it's part of branding - radio & internet isn't well connected anyway. for example hitzradio.com, smoothjazz.com, club977.com, realaudio.com & shoutcast.com doesn't use ".fm" - it's simply just a bad branding strategy. it'd say tv3.tv is a really bad idea. even if .software or .soft were introduced, i guarantee microsoft will never buy microsoft.software or micro.soft
