What sort of domain name are you looking for?

- If its purely the cheapest and you don't care about the extention, then .info's range between US$1 to US$3 at different registrars- Registerfly, Domainsite etc. Regfly used to to 0.60 promo. Out of the 2- used DS.

- If its a .com you want- most of the registrars charge between US$6 to $9 per name. Domainsite or Godaddy is recommended. Lookout for coupons for GD to lower ur price.

- If its a .com.my, Hostrelax are quite competitive.

For .com.my I'm not sure becos no experience there...

But if you want a .com/net/info/org/biz then my suggestion is not to go with Malaysian company simply because all of them are resellers so the price will be still at least slightly higher than if you go with foreign registrar.

Registerfly is having financial difficulties, so better not register there...dont go for the cheapest registrars because later you will have problems trying to renew or transfer...also your domains may not be safe.

Try namecheap/domainsite/dynadot for quality and relatively (but not cheapest) pricing.

Recent proposals have come into effect in ICANN, I believe whereby many registrars wanted to jack up the org/info/biz prices...I'm not sure what happened after that, but my feeling is .info price will be going up soon.

Nice observation...Some updates:

1. there are at least two Msian-based registrars if I'm not mistaken. Price-wise, actually about the same for either local or foreign registrars, since most registrars don't sell direct to customer. Instead most sell bulk to resellers, which include Msian-based resellers. don't just go for the cheapest though. MAKE SURE, there are no hidden fees for other services like PRIVACY protection, email forwarding etc. Some registrars bundle goodies like free hosting and email accounts too, so that will save you a lot considerably compared to getting separate web hosting account. Ask around and compare a few registrars before REGISTERING your domain to be sure you deal with the BEST one that fit your preference. Foreign resellers/registrars fold too, so, be cautious! Getting your preferred support environment matters too!

2. Wow... I didn't realize registerfly brouhahas started that early... oh well, it's quite a history now, as ICANN already pulled their accreditation from this company. One of my domain clients complained back then (3 yrs back) on how registerfly took ransom of his domain and required a payment for $800 for reinstatement. Of course, he immediately ditched registerfly and migrated most of his portfolio to my company....

3. .biz, .info, .org and .us seasonably really go on SALE -- some go down to well under RM10 for first year registration... Could be a good deal if you prefer those extensions.
