actually you can get from yahoo, but now no more promotion, but you must remember next year you want to extend it will cost USD9.95. When you buy the domain name, 1st you must think of what facility they provide, they allow you to manage your domain name? if you want to transfer to another provider, easy to get auth code?

, but real cheap. It seems like people are throwing the domainn registration price everywhere. I don't like the fact that it is backed by globat hosting. |

If I have bought a domain name, what I can do with the domain name? I read from some domain seller website, there're features such as url forwarding, email forwarding and anti-spam system...How can I do this?
Can I renew my domain name by own without going through all these domain seller? If the domain is mine, should my name appear in the WHOIS? If the domain seller name appears, what can I do? Thanks. |

Hello leekk8,
The features that you mentioned above is provided by most of the popular registrar e.g GoDaddy, NameCheap etc. You can read in their FAQ about how to use url forwarding. Well, as I know, mainly url forwarding is to forward the domain name like abc.com to your other domain name or subdomain which could be hosted under Geocities or else. My advice, read their information, FAQ and email them about these services if you unsure whether you need it or not. The WHOIS info for the domain depends on what you include and register on the domains. If you dont want your name and your email be listed on the whois, mybe you should look for whois-protection that nowdays many registrar offer for free or with a tiny fee. The 2nd question mybe other members can help to answer it.

The mistake i made when leaving the registrant (or hosting company) to process the registration is when they are in control of the website in the form where the registrant details are their own, ie the admin, billing, tech contact and so forth. In my case they had my details BUT the email contact was their own hence when i wanted to transfer to a different domain registra i had the problem of not being able to check the registrant email for details like passwords and so forth. I think you might better look around for someone in Malaysia even if its a bit more expensive and they represent a more established company. However as some noted in their replies they have had some good experience with their preferred/present registrants. At present i register my new domains via an australian company. More expensive but listen, i can 'tiaw kueh tiaw' my own countrymen when and if they screw up plus the laws there are quite strict when come to such things. Plus i always prefer to use a service where it's possible to speak to them via livechat and even call them up to get a matter resolved instead of these tickets and support email. When the registration is completed you should print out the 'whois'. There is no documentation as such to 'proof' your ownership from the domain registrar but i used to get such documentation from register.com. That was a long time ago and i do not know if they still do it. Yes, even you register the domain with 10 registra's and use 10 different hosting company is not an issue. Yes, you should be able to transfer the domain registration to another provider but do it early like a minimum of 45 days before expiry. Request that the new hosting provider help to transfer your files so that its hassle free for you but you will need to provide your details for your login to your control panel. Enough now. Already 3 cents worth. |

I didn't know there's a difference between getting a domain from a registrar and getting a domain from a web hosting company. You guys have really given me handful info. I will definitely get a domain from a registrar from now on.
However, I have one quick question, how do I get a web hosting company to host my domain for me after I get a domain from registrar? Scenario: If I register my domain with NameCheap and I want it to be hosted by BlueHost, what are the procedures? Really appreciate your expertise. |

Is that mean if I buy a domain from a registrar, the contact listed in WHOIS will be my name, and if I buy a domain from a webhosting company, the contact listed in WHOIS will be the webhosting company?
I've bought a domain from a webhosting company, but I hope that in WHOIS, the contact person is me, but not the webhosting company's owner. Please help. |

You have bought a domain already and hope the whois is you? You don't hope. If you bought already go and do a lookup and see for yourself. |

As for play registratrion I go with Dynadot, Domainsite and Registerfly, which from time to time runs specials at $2.75 for NET domains and $1.59 for INFOs Last edited by MasterMind; 02-11-2006 at 05:24 AM. Reason: correcting registrar's name |
