.com . Why? because by default most browsers point to a .com tld if users don't enter the tld in the address bar.

For instance, if I enter only YourBlogAddress (without the com), as most computer beginners do (for instance my mother), the browser will first find for a YourBlogAddress.com , or else it will report a no server found error.

Until next time, explore the possibilities.

I may be mistaken, but i think this .com default only applies on older browsers. today's browsers use intelligent search, and might go to just just about domain with any .TLD that's most related to the keyword(s). you can also specify which search engine to utilize as a default.

but it's handy to just press CTRL-ENTER after entering the single word, and IE/mozilla will append www. and .com to the word. save a few seconds => days/months/years if combined to all time saved by users worldwide

i guess dot net is really great for a chain of network, like if u have one primary site, u will connect it to other sub-sites that should be considered as part of ur primary site.
dot com is great for a single web site.
just my opinion.

Actually whois privacy is not so important. But if u really want it then go to namecheap because they offer free whois privacy. You can try mydomain.com by using htmli.info to get 15% OFF which a domain cost you at only $7.61. They accept unverified paypal too...

When seeking domain names most ppl get confused over whether 2settle for a dot com address or a dot net one. Now u mus know dot net addresses have risen in popularity and usage on the net oredi..

but for my choice...dot com is my 1st priority...

actually it doesn't matter whether you want to buy .com or .net
but for me, i will use .com for formal website (information site, news, good stuffs, etc) and .net for personal website, blog.

Somehow people tend to recognize most websites as .com, don't you think so? E.g. If you have told someone that your site is blahblahblah.net, people will still type it as blahblahblah.com

.com is better than .net

its the most common-est internet domain. If you had a choice, pick .com. unless you have some brilliant idea like, del.ico.us. if not, stick with .com

I've been buying domains since I was 14, and I've never used a .com domain. I only use .net and .org. At that time, blogging was not a trend yet. We all installed Graymatter script to blog, and most of us prefer .net and .org rather than .com

.com usually means the main purpose of the site is for commercial purposes, but I believe with .net (or even .org), it's like your site's main purpose is to build a social network where readers/visitors keep coming back for more everyday.

But that's only what I think :P
