Hi all,

i read the posts about opening accounts with 2checkout.com , paysystems.com etc. to accept credit cards online but if i have my own server box and i wanna set it up to accept credit cards, how should i do it ? anyone has any experience or recommendations ? i guess it will need ssl and apply to visa, mastercard etc to be merchant and stuff like tat... is it worth the time and effort to do it or i should just let the 3rd party to do it for me ??
fyi, im planning to setup a website to sell services to international customers, so no real products involved. thx for ur ans in advance.

it is rather complicated, time consuming, troublesome to set up own online credit card process system.

You need register a server, ip, ssl, merchant from local bank, online payment system...

The benefit of setting up own system is that you have full control, and you dun need pay commission(up to 4.5% per transaction) to 3rd party.

The disadvantage is you are responsible to the system. You maintain it, you service it. Security is a concern too.

I recommend you try 3rd party service first. Get familiar with the system and set up your own one when you business getting bigger.

Just my 2cent.

Yeah, it's quite troublesome to set up online payment gateway on your own. The basic requirements are mentioned in lcf's post.

Anyway, if you would like to safe the hassle, you may consider to purchase a package. Metrolix Enterprise is offering e-commerce hosting. The basic package is as following:

- Annual fee for WorldPay On-line Payment Gateway
- Annual fee for InstantSSL Digital SSL Certificate (128 bit)
- Annual fee for 1 Fixed IP address (secure SSL pages)
- Inclusive installation, server setup and support
- Inclusive 140 MB (70 MB Web & 70 MB E-mails) Hosting Plan (click for more details)

Total: RM 2,680 for 1st year, RM 1,800 per year thereafter

Advanced packages are also available with higher storage capacity, depending on your needs.

fred, sorry for the delay in replying your message. Cos I was away during Raya break

The answer is very simple. The merchant's customers will be putting their credit card information onto the website right? Well, the SSL is used for that purpose. This SSL will be for seding the information 'to' WorldPay, so the payment page in the website will be in https://.

Basically this payment page (where customer input credit card info) will be hosted in client's hosting servers and belongs to the client and not WorldPay. So when customers input their credit card information, it is encripted and sent to WorldPay. Once it arrives in WorldPay servers, it is already safe in their hands. So basically the SSL is for the purpose of securing trasactions from customer to merchant website and finally processed by WorldPay. That's all.

Thanks for your enquiry anyway.

I know the usage of SSL, so for world pay, the information enter form is residing in the ecommerce site itself instead of in world pay server? coz i only have experience with 2checkout, all the information(filling and transaction) in done in their server so no need extra setup for SSL.

Thanks for the info.

yeah, the transaction is initially gathered and done in merchant's website. Then finally only send to WorldPay for processing, such as fraud detection, credit authorization and etc.

This, the merchant's website could have greater range of flexibility, in terms of transaction steps.

Sorry that my previous reply wasnt clear enough.

lcf, you're right. WorldPay has a few packages to cater different needs, depending on whether the merchant website already has an existing Internet Trading Account, and types of currency.

In the view of network security threats, it's possible for any online resources to be attacked, including well-established tech giants
