Thread: Suggestion - Stop the Links and Adverts

In order to promote an atmosphere of professionalism I humbly suggest that you ban all links from posts and from signatures. The most successful webmaster forum in the world is webmasterworld.com and they have done that from the beginning.

It quickly stops all the people posting just to try to promote their own site.

Only allow links in one or two topics, i.e. site review and the advertising topic. Keep adverts and self promotion out of everything else.

Then let's not talk specifics, let's talk generally. The more generally applicable your advice is and your problem is written, the more useful it is to other people.

Why don't make the ads viewable for non-members only?
Since members automatically ignore the ads.

i think their target is to everyone those browsing this forum..
if non members can view the ads / links.. that's mean they will keep on spamming the forum..

action by admin that denied to post in advertising forum instead u have enough post count seems not much works.. they still spam in the other forum..

I am neutral on this topic, let us see what are members said on this. If majority of the members agreed to have links removed from signatures, we will remove the links.

We will need at least total of 100 votes by 15th Mar 2006 for the decision.

I made this thread as "Sticky" as well.

7days = 1 week = 4votes
15-Mar = 4 weeks = 16 votes

Total votes = 16+4 = 20 votes (20% of the needed 100)...

if the link contain "ref=" referal refid bla bla bla..
then the link will automaticly disable auto linking?

Yes, should be able to do so. something like how VBulletin filter out bad words. What are the common strings?

?aid=

That would certainly help - but sometimes it's people with their own site to spam... And some referral links don't use arguments, e.g. site.com/john

yes i do knew there's some web using subdomain but hidden referal link inside.. but it's ok.. at least hard for them too
