I agree that there is an unacceptable level of spam here. The line between commerical promotion and spam is unfortunately very fine... that is why it is best that all commerical promotion be banned apart from in the http://www.webmastermalaysia.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 forum. That includes removing affiliate links and links to affiliate sites from signatures!
I also think it would be good to have more of the active members given the ability to move threads to the http://www.webmastermalaysia.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 forum ... not a full moderator power, just something limited to help out in keeping this place clean!

Hi guys, sorry for participating this thread late.
We probably need a very "sound" policy (because I think the existing rules and faq is not clear and conscise enough) on what is allowed, and what isnt. Second of all, we need a more active moderating team (currently, there are only me and mysticmind whom active a bit). Thanks for starting this thread though, in which we can discuss on some spamming issue: 1) Removing of all non-webmaster related services? 2) Absolutely no affiliate links allowed? 3) No selling/buying of PayPal fund? 4) More active members as moderator to help moderating? |

1) Removing of all non-webmaster related services?
This makes perfect sense... this is webmastermalaysia 2) Absolutely no affiliate links allowed? Allow them in the Other Webmaster-related Services and Promotion section, if you must allow them at all 3) No selling/buying of PayPal fund? This is not a question or an option! It is illegal under Malaysian law and in clear breach of Paypal's TOS. Allowing it to continue puts the whole site at risk of being shut down... 4) More active members as moderator to help moderating? Limited powers can really help active members to keep the forum clean - don't worry - they can always be removed if abused Overall... ...getting rid of the rubbish will mean that when anyone, a member or a guest, comes to read the forum - they see good on-topic content. Because they didn't just see spam and self- or affilate promotion by members, they will reply to the on-topic content, and they will know this is a place to add their own quality posts and honest questions.

Do not agree with this at all. It is a pretty well known fact that those without cards such as Accent or VMI cannot withdraw their funds from their account so why must this be banned? Even LowYatt.Net is doing this quite openly, as well as other Malaysian webmaster/blogging forums. It is not fair for those who don't have the means to withdraw their money to be barred from selling it.

Unlicensed money changing
Here are two recent extracts from the news. My comments are in italic below each.
October 15th 2006: In JOHOR BAHRU, a medical hall operator was fined RM50,000 in default three years' jail by the Sessions Court here Wednesday for conducting an unlicensed money changer operations. ...On the first charge, he was fined RM40,000 in default two years' jail for selling S$47 equivalent to RM100 to a client. ... Me: S$47 into RM100... so that's about US$27. i.e. change US$27 into RM then expect a fine of 50,000 or two years jail. September 8th 2006: ...the central bank had acted tough to stem the illegal money changing trade... there were 38 investigations involving unlicensed money changing under Section 4(1) of the Money Changing Act ... and 14 cases involving the transfer of funds out of Malaysia either for a third party or for the moneychanger himself under Section 30. Me: With the central bank getting tough on illegal money changing, and recent cases involving both the straight unlicensed changing of money, as well as just the act of sending the funds out of the country - using PayPal (abroad) to bring RM out of the country through illegal money changing is clearly out of the question. Some people may not like the fact that they can't do this but it is still the law, and it still puts WebmasterMalaysia.com in a dangerous position. If someone highlights this to the central bank then it could quickly be goodbye forum.
