Where do graphic desiger jobseekers hang out?

Trying my best to track down some good graphic designers to work with me in KL. Not sure where to advertise - any tips? I need people who can transform a client's breif/description into flat graphic files which the programmers can then make into templates.

limcs ... that is true... although most of those good established designers already earn 10k+/month doing freelancing...

I can't speak for anyone else here and I'm not a graphical designer - but based on what I've seen of prices and how long I know it takes to clear a project - a good freelancer should be getting that.

How I charged when I was a freelancer was I picked an hourly rate (US$60/hour) at that time, i.e. $1/min, then I estimated how long it would take - e.g. 3 hour job = US$180. You need to pick a rate which reflects how much you think you should be earning.

If the client won't pay that much then you need to work on your portfolio and show him that you are worth it because you are so much better than the cheaper options. If that fails - then you're not up to scratch and need to cut your prices or go back and learn more!

I think, a good freelancer would definitely earn more than that.

For the pricing guide, you can try do a search on what other web design firms are charging to have an idea. I think it's better to charge client per project, rather than per hour basis.

In case my post is misunderstood - my advice is to estimate the time required and give a price per project based upon it. i.e. you think it will take 3 hours so 3 x hourly rate = total price for project - and then you take in the risk if you overrun, and reap rewards if you finish faster.

For big contracts (US$5k+) then you will want to give a project estimated cost but bill hourly. It's too hard to accurately guess the cost of a project unless it's smallish.

So I reckon the freelancers in Malaysia are charging USD/hour? I'm still trying to establish a pricing guide for freelance projects, can't get the nail down yet. Any other suggestions for charges?

From what I see, rates depend on the market. If you are doing small jobs for local firms, you have to price in RM and according to the local market. If you are freelancing for multinationals with a Malaysian base, or you are freelancing to the US or Europe then you will normally charge US$ according to those much higher market rates.

I'm also doing a part time job.. the i should take your advise as a reference. But as you know la.. Malaysia's client are not the same wit overseas client. They know nothing about graphic but pretend to be the expert one. Always want a cheap one but the outcome must the great one.

Here's where a lot of graphic designers hang out - it's down this morning, but is usually very busy.
