not anymore goolie. last year, yes. its root are in colleges, and so were yahoo, google, lycos back in their early start.

most of my friends are 30-55, so we're clearly no college folks, but many of my friends spend too much time playing with the apps in facebook. i have to push myself out of FB after 30-minute or so, or too much entertainment/social cluttering, and too little work for me then...

360 looks terrible to me. yahoo better close it down just like yahoo auction!

but my mindset about facebook always is in negative bcos i found that there is an area of sharing inapprpriate pic which may ruin reputation for future job and personal relationship...(same wif friendster, but i din put my personal photo here)


besides that, it access to info such as phone no, address and etc may lead to sexual harassment and abuse...

hehe goolie. your concern is genuine, just like by the millions of Internet users out there, especially parents regarding the excessively easy access to these social net hangouts by their kids.

however, if you'd think too much of the possible dangers of ICTs, better skip telephone, fax, email, IMs, paper-based communications too any of these can expose you to some kind of danger. heck, better not leave the house. but then, even people who stay quietly in own house still can face dangers from family members and relative or neighborhood criminals.

the key is to use any of these technologies modestly and cautiously, but not skipping them entirely. putting own pics is fine, as long as you're not be putting your sexy or incriminating ones. yes, superimposition is possible, but Najib still is fine as the TPM after all the TV brouhahas. Even playboy models that bare all hot-n-steamy still get cherished are millionaire celebrities. If Paris can do it (porn and sing/act -- or replace Paris with Malaysian artists' names), anybody can!

don't put out your phone number, address etc if you don't want people to stalk you. better yet, skip the Internet. by posting messages in this forum, people can already build a history of you.

but that's just the way humans connect - IN-FOR-MATION. animals perhaps can just rely on smells and sounds (which would still be 'information', just not in human-like languages). the more personal you are on the Internet, the more personal contacts you'll gain. otherwise, if you're happy with virtual friends, stay as virtual as possible -- use hard-to-guess nicknames, and avatars instead of your real identities. CHEAT as much as possible -- but this will lure you to extramarital affairs if you happen to be married!!

yes, the Internet is a jungle, but, who cares... we're all Tarzans & Janes...

The question would be, would you harvest the treasure of the jungle or leave it to the elites and opportunists (the billionaires like Bezos, Omidyar, the Googleaires, Zuckerberg etc) to benefit all? The full billion Internet users will soon or later be hit with the social networking bugs. Wait... even in nice parks like the New York Central Park or the clean nice neighborhoods (like yours?) can crimes and abuse happened!

To be good example.. Youtube is a pioneer of Open Video Sharing Community.. The most greatest archievement for this decade at least. Now you can see too much video sharing site appear - veoh - metacafe - even porntube and youporn hahaha .

but i dun think those are a problem..youtube has got a lot of old video clips which i can no longer find anymore..so it is quite worthwhile

To be blame on Google is unfair.
because that's hundreds thousand video uploaded everyday.. How can they monitor it?

Actually, as uploader / user.. they already agree on TOS during upload process.
Else, the user must be blamed. (and actualy, in law google can sue the user itself )

For the quality matter, there's option..
1 - Good quality = big file and slow loading time. (veoh.com had better quality). This also caused heavy server load!

2 - Faster load = scarifying quality to reduce size.

.flv is the most efficient format right now.. if there's a format for 30 minutes playback with size below 3mb + quality like dvd .. that should be a miracle
