Paying someone in Malaysia?

I've read some stories that Malay cannot use Paypal. What other (reliable) options do I have to pay a person that is residing in Malaysia? Can I open up a Maybank account even though I am not living in Malaysia?

I am planning to offer some paid work for Malay writers and designers, but usually I always use Paypal.

Thanks

Ilya

I know some people who would write stories like that The people of Malaysia are called 'Malaysians' - they're not all Malay... that's another story!

I live in Malaysia, but I'm not Malaysian, and I can't get a bank account. I've tried...

Lots of Malaysians do use Paypal, though it's not as straightforward to get an account here as it is in other countries, and not quite as easy to use (fewer options, more security) as it is in other countries. I would expect most Malaysians that do paid work on the Web would have a Paypal account, or would be able to get one easily enough.

You could always find a go-between, someone will always offer to receive Paypal funds and pay Ringgit to a Malaysian bank...

Hi there,

Thanks for the quick reply. Please enlighten me regarding the usage of 'Malaysian' or 'Malay'. I always use Malay, and nobody every corrected me (which is odd, since I know quite a few people from Malaysia)

Anyways, thanks for the input, I could surely use it.

Malaysians are an easy-going lot, not quick to correct mistakes ... this wikipedia article is a good start:

well the terms Malay are heavily depends on whom you known. If those you known are in the religion of Islam, then they fine to be called Malays.

Malay is more of a term we use to refer those whom religion is Islam.

Malaysian is referred to as Citizenship of Malaysia. Since we are a country comprising of multi-ethnic society, Malays, Chinese, Indian, + others are all referred Malaysian.

How great to know this. I simply didn't know the difference, but it all sounds very logical to me. I must admit, I usually refer to islamic Malays, so I wasn't that far off. But since I don't know who I'm dealing with online, it's absolutely better for me to use the word Malaysian next time.

I am a bit ashamed, since I am webmaster of a fairly popular website about Malaysia . But then again, we all keep on learning new things daily....

Again, thanks for the input.

@ Coolio: For now I do not have that many assignments. I am however thinking of hiring one or more people to write nice (authentic) travel/tourism related stories about Malaysia for my new English travel website. Where to look better then here in Malaysia right .
