Thread: Streamyx - seriously slow

Do any of you have contacts in Streamyx who can help get this sorted out?

SNR Margin is 6.5 Down / 13.0 Up
Line Attenuation is 64.6 Down / 31.0 Up
Data Rate is 224 Down / 448 Up

As you can see there are serious problems with the line - 60+ attenuation downstream and 6.5 SNR mean that it keeps disconnecting, and when it manages to connect it is somewhat less than the 1M I'm hoping for!

These past week, I too am facing shitty broadband service from Streamyx.
Tested my buddy's Maxis 3G and I was zooming about the Internet even though the speed at 384. Still better off then Streamyx.

Is something wrong at TMNut's end?

Ipoh seems ok.. but one day in one month, there will be some request time out

There is something wrong with TmNet GRRR - The International Links way congested especially thru Time Warner Telecom and Teleglobe. They dropped AlterNet recently and now running one pipe short, probably maybe more than one pipes... who knows!

With this stats also you'll get 500ms to 660 ms after 7pm

They seriously need to upgrade the International links, subscribers base now growing and not enough bandwidth for all.

It is true about 3g (since I am using it as backup) the connection for download is quite good, for surfing but upload is quite sad 64kbps. (UMTS Technology)

Just hold on till HDSPA kicked in .. Maxis will launch HDSPA early next year with DL speed more than 1 MB.. maybe you guys can consider Maxis as an alternative to Streamyx.

Thos are pretty good stats - nice margin and almost no attenuation. Can you share? I'll give you some of my 60+ attenuation and you give me some of your margin?

Yeah that is correct, I am with EasynNet
Not what you call an expert.. but so so lah..

One thing to get a good connection to make sure your cabling is properly inserted into the switch board.

I was really upset because TM Technician did not wire this premise propery, I had do "clean up" job unshielded the cables and push it back to the switch and in the main switch board (central building switch) although had no "punch down" tool.

I did bleed one of my fingers in a process (I use normal blades) but hey... I just don't trust TM for the cabling.. after that "intervention" the line is better.

I bet some of the connection slowdowns can be corrected with proper cabling so the DSL signal can be transmitted back and forth with less errors to the DSLAM.

A few things that you can do,

Regarding the line you can you have to make sure that copper wire tighten properly and not touching each other, also make plastic insulation properly removed and tighten around the screw inside the faceplate.


Try connecting direcly without the DSL filter. If you use a dedicated phone line just bypass the filter if you do not need it.

If you are you using extension telephone wiring to connect to your room, make sure you use "just enough" length.. Do not use too long cables.. remember the shorther the data travels the less the errors.

Regarding surfing, we all already know that running background process really can slow down your connection. Just terminate background process or p2p programs if you are not using it.

If you are using firefox, there a few tweaks that you can maximize your http connection. By making extra simultaneously httpd connection you can download faster.. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/
install fasterfox extension and choose turbo settings. You can tweak the settings manually, fasterfox making it easier for beginner.

According to Microsoft - Internet Explorer opens only 2 http sessions when you are browsing.
Check Microsoft Knowledge Base on how to tweaking the registry.

You can maximize the concurrent connections to fill up our broadband capacity so images and text will load faster - (have mercy on web hosts - too many open httpd connections LOL) change to 10 -12 http sessions will do..

Oh back to the registry tweaking.. If you don’t know how to edit your registery. Just install this registry to increase MaxConnectionsPerServer setting - Save target as (tweak.reg) You can back up your registry if you want.. (Only for broadband - not for dial up)

These are general tweaking for surfing, there are many things that you could do.. Just Ask Auntie Google

the appearance of P1 wimax is good in creating competition with streamyx but in short term, streamyx are hard to incluence by P1 wimax. Because P1 wimax has surfing limitation. Hope streamyx will improve their quality

this company where got hope wan... tak boleh harap langsung.... they so called pioneer and the best broadband provider ... but it stills sucks after so many year in operation ....

i like izzi better coz its more reliable even though the speed is much slower....

talking about KPI... it already gone down the toilet when he announced his new ministry line-up..... he so pandai-pandai go join ICT ministry and Culture and Acts ministry in his new line-up....

i just keep scratching my head...wondering what the heck ICT have in common with culture and Arts?

hmmm....maybe he want to teach the computer to sing rasa sayang, produce batik and play kuda kepang?
