Thread: DC shutdown

There is news that the Myloca DC will be shutting down for up to 24 hours to do power maintenance work in a few weeks.

How do you deal with such a situation? Would your clients understand such an issue? If you are hosting an ecommerce site, isn't this a major loss for your income?

I have not heard of DCs shutting down like this for up to a day. Has anyone else got experience with local or overseas DCs doing such a thing? Is it even acceptable for a DC to have such a downtime?

I have seen various disaster happened to our local data center. Power outage, maintenance, bandwidth problem. But this is totally out of our control. Perhaps your only choice would be move to U.S data center. However, even that would not promise 100% uptime. Even Google Data Center has faced downtime before.

I know there is bound to be some downtime some time for various reasons. However, such a long period of downtime seems unreasonable.

When the earthquake hit the international cables a few months ago, even TM had a news item saying that local companies should host in local DCs. But if their own DCs have these issues, it's no wonder lots of people host overseas.
