Hi !,

I was a webmaster 12 years ago now coming back to the scence to get my old hands dirty. Use to do Perl 5 and handcoding html pages (no free html editors back then). Written shopping cart with url encoding and cookie method session handling. Now I guess plenty of free stuff, don't need to hand code.

As usual, the web scence keeps changing with new technologies always (still changing sigh...). That's one of the reason I dropped webmastering last time.

Hope to learn something from all of you.

Me long time no coding/webmastering anymore. Reason for getting hands dirty again is so I can be an IT volunteer to help charitable organizations with their IT needs.

I guess it's me who needs the learning now. After exploring for past 1 month, the web scence has change a lot. Now ppl who doesn't know html, cgi and sysadmin stuff can also have their own website. Back then netscape was only version 2. IE never heard of. The only search engine was lycos, yahoo and altavista. The only online shopping was amazon. The only web animation was animated gifs and java applets. Javascripts was still buggy. You can imagine how primitive is my knowledge. Enough of history.

Was tired of handcoding web and found it too painful to make a living this way. So went into system and networking. Then moved-on more of mgmt work. Now project managing.

How about you guys ? Just curious, how does a web business looks like this days after the dotcom bubble burst ?
