exsomnis is on a distinguished road
Greetings webmasters!

I'm a budding webmaster residing in Bangsar, currently working in the IT line. My job is actually quite comfortable but the company I'm in is starting to decline, and I think before I start to look at my options, I should start generating some secondary income, in case of rainy days.

I have a few workable ideas for content and have been on the net for a long time but I have zero experience hosting my own website for money making purposes.

I hope to be able to learn from everyone and share my experiences too.

cheers!

Yes. Take it (webmastering) as a hobby, and do it for the love of it. Soon, you will have a stable residual income.

A good way to start is get a domain name, hosting, and probably install a blog (wordpress), and start writing what you interest about. Once you have do it long enough and have a steady stream of visitors/readers, start monetizing from
them (using adsense or other alternative).

Welcome to the forum, exsomnis

Thanks limcs. I've been blogging for years but I've only just recently thought about making money out of the web. I do know it will take quite some time to develop a readership that can provide a nice, sustainable income - it's something that will take time (judging from the hotshots like alang and lcf).

I've done a bit of research into blogging CMS and I think that I'll go with either Textpattern or NucleusCMS. Opensourcecms.com/ seems to provide excellent information, plus they even have demoes of the systems.

And yes, I think starting out with adsense seems to be a good idea - it's easy to setup and I've already tried it on one of my blogs.

The next thing I need to look into is SEO and promotion of my site.

Unless you write compelling content on a compelling topic, it is REALLY HARD for blogging to take off, especially makingn nice and sustainable income.

LCF started his blog way long back, slowly gathering link, and build his own reputation and readership slowly. If he were start today, I guess it would take more than 2 years (or never) for the blog to take off.

Alang, I supposed start at a niche site (about OSX), which is preferbably a more recommended way to do. Start with a niche site (on what you know, on what you love, on what you passion about) with a goal of been the 'king of your niche' one day. Do your research. Throw time in. I believe y ou will achieve a nice income within 6-12 months.

IMHO, Wordpress is the best, both as a CMS and Blogging platform.
