KULIM HI-TECH PARK NOW MSC CYBERCITY
The Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) in Kedah was officially recognised as an MSC Malaysia Cybercity outside Cyberjaya in the Multimedia Super Corridor by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Aug 18.
Now that the park, widely known for its focus on high technology companies since 1996, is a Cybercity, MSC status companies there can cash in on the same benefits enjoyed by the Penang Cybercity.
Such companies also stand to benefit from the priorities and guarantees of the Malaysian Government in ensuring the availability of the same infrastructure and connectivity found in a thriving and dynamic Information technology hub.
The rollout of the MSC Cybercity to Kedah, and specifically to the KHTP augurs well for the high technology manufacturing tenants who are already operating in the fully integrated hi-tech area, as well as K-Entrepreneurs who are looking toward being groomed into world-class IT giants.
Since the park`s inception 15 years ago, 36 companies have set up operations there and have pumped in about RM20 billion in investments into the KHTP, besides providing over 15,000 jobs to people in the surrounding areas.
Additionally, spin offs from KHTP tenant companies are expected to include Research and Development activities, outsourcing services and other researh based development, which could take advantage of the incentives and other perks associated with MSC Malaysia Cybercities.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Mohd Jarjis said the move to grant the KHTP Cybercity status would provide a firm foundation to draw other MSC companies to operate in Kedah.
`I believe that the KHTP has the potential to nurture more creators of technology who will produce new ideas and products proudly bearing the `Made in Kedah` label,` he said.
Also present at the ceremony was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Multimedia Development Corporation chairman Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali and Kulim Technology Park Corporation Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Shukri Tajuddin.
