haha, well saying what's so great about dead corals is like saying what's so great about our coral reefs right? I doubt its a dead coral, it's probably just underexposed cause as you said, might have been taken with those standard underwater cameras which don't have flash and the works. I think the panel put this pic here with those considerations in mind, do note that the type of camera used to take the pic was to be mentioned in the entry submissions, we don't know how the photos were selected, so please respect the panels decision, condemning the photos here is like condemning the panels decision in choosing the finalists. The same can be said about a few of the other entries, such as the highway pic, what's so great a bout a highway right?

we have look at it in a positive way, you have the right to give your comments, but don't condemn on others effort. criticism should be given to improve our community. a good picture need not necessarily be taken with camera worth the price of a second hand kancil. value the effort taken in order to compose the right frame, hitting the shutter at the right moment to capture a priceless split second image that may never pass in front of your lens again. believe me, its not as easy as you may think. see this image of thunderstorm clouds during monsoon season in kelantan taken with cheap camera phone . the composition is more important, not what type of camera being used. click on the image for bigger view. to everybody, support our community, we are what we build, cheers mate! to the organizers, keep up the good work, salute! ![]() |

yes mates, don't be sour because of one competition, exabytes is organizing so many other competitions this year, you can try out the other competitions, and I suppose this is the first photography competition, trial and error, don't shoot first and ask questions later, a corpse ain't gonna give you any answers.
rbizancb3, I totally agree with you on taking snaps, it is not easy to take good pictures, and a good picture need not come from a very expensive camera, there's more to just the colors, there's also composition, the exact moment that won't happen again in life, it's an art, don't think you're using a pros camera your pics will come out pro looking, its more than just the tool, timing, skill, opportunity all come into play. And yeah, keep up the good work and effort to the organizers. ![]() By the way when is the vote coming to an end? |

i also have an entry (PICTURE 14). it may not be much of a picture to some, but i'm proud of my effort. i have to trek a few miles very early morning to get this pic, using calculative long exposure and wide aperture, with the camera mounted on tripod to capture the shot. some people buy cheap camera simply because they could not afford an expensive one, but that does not make them a less competent or a not so good photographer. the effort thrown in making the picture a good one should not be taken for granted. that is the value of photography...priceless to the photographer when you have an awesome picture. of course some pictures are taken just by mere chance, you happened to be at the right place on the right moment with perfect lighting, weather conditions etc. i have been experimenting taking pics of lightning without total success. it turns out only "so-so". i am also proud to say that i have been taking thousands of pictures since 1980, but there's still a lot more for me to learn after all these years of experience. the windows for improvements never close with new technology cropping up everyday. no hard feelings bro, this is just my humble opinion. do not misinterpret my intentions as i only want to contribute the best and share my experience sincerely for the benefits of our communities.live is a learning process as new day emerge, treasure the past, embrace the future and live your life to the fullest today, it may not last forever..... ![]() |
