Cyberjaya DC will shut down on 14th APR

Hi all webmaster, this is an anoucement from my company's emai host provider, kindly take note!

We would like to inform you that TMNet has scheduled repair and audit activities in the Cyberjaya1 Data Center (formerly known as MyLoca) that involved the whole Data Center . It is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the integrity and reliability of the electrical power system of the Data Center at all times.

The maintenance will begin at 0700AM Malaysian Time on Saturday , 14thApril , 2007 . The work is expected to conclude within 24 hours, at approximately 07.00AM Malaysian Time, Sunday, 15 th April , 2007 .

During this time, all servers located at Cyberjaya1 Data Cente will have to be shutdown. As a result, you will be unable to access all websites and emails hosted at Cyberjaya1 Data Center for the duration of the exercise.

it mention "cyberjaya1 data centre"..may be just a part of the DC among whole cyberjaya... hopefully don affect here.

Cyberjaya1 data center is previously Myloca. In which I think a lot of web hosts got their server there. I guess we (the customers and the web hosts) can do nothing about data center maintenance.

I've also got the same message about this outage on 14-15 April. I understand that sometimes maintenance needs to be done on any system.

However, what I don't understand is why do they have to shut down the full operation - web & email services. I'm pretty sure they could possibily do the maintenance in some proper stages, thus affecting less people.

And don't tell me they don't have any backup servers?

This goes to show that a lot of improvements can still be done in the operation of a datacenter especially in Malaysia.

mostly we still cant see any result after the maintenance. like the streamyx, some time said service interupt is cos of upgrading of the service, but seen like not improvement at all..

Deal all, i have receive an anoucement of the postponed of "Planned Outage Activities at MyLoca" today

I wonder if they postponed it due to their own technical reasons or due to complaints from their customers.

This was the shutdown I referred to in:
DC shutdown

Now after waiting for a month for this to happen, it is cancelled 3 days before the date and we have to wait and see when they will do the maintenance again.

I was informed that the data center management realized and understand that shutting down the entire data center for whole day is a bad idea. Hence, they have postponed the maintenance while they are preparing more more backup power supply. That means, the downtime will be minimized instead of 24 hours.

The new date for this maintenance is yet to be confirmed.

hope they postpone until noneed shut down... if not..my boss, big boss and big big boss will query again...

they ask the stupid question, "why shut down?, why maintanance?"
how i going to answer them...

I will say still there is a need to perform this maintenance to fix once and for all their backup power systems, generators ... etc. Otherwise, is like a time bomb, where no one will never know when there is power outage next time, will the gen set, UPS kick in automatically.

Yes, the maintenance was supposed to be for fixing problems that happened 6 months or so ago. It's bad enough that it has taken so long to get to solving the problem, and the time-bomb has already been ticking all this while.

Hi all, bad news again, today i receive a foward mail on "Planned Outage Activities" from my email and web host provider.

Cyberjaya DC shutdown re-schedule at MAY 15th

this time more worse, 25 hour shut down
