Lightbulb How to increase traffic for new forums?

This is the place to discuss about how to increase traffic for new forums,
including:
- increasing the total number of 'legal' members
- increasing the meaningful posts
etc

You can go to some famous forum either invite the moderators there or some senior or active members there to become your forum moderators in some section. This will bring high members come to ur forum. But make sure your forum will stable in future when traffic increasing. And also those disccusion things in your forum is every body like it, like movie, game, music or any

buy people to post on your forum.

people don't want to post if your forum has ZERO
people.

just make it 'look' active for sometime until
it's fully active on its own.

at that time.. advertise ur forum everywhere.

do some cool activities in there. competition
or something.

It is really difficult to get traffic to a new forums. I think most important issue is to start the forum. If you have some friends or known persons who like to share the same interest, then simply request them to register in your forum and start posting. There are some other alternatives as well. But those may not ensure organic growth of your forum.

Actually, apart from promoting your forum, the evil way that must go side by side is that you create some users and post in your forum with different nicknames.

This is evil but it makes your forum looks exciting. Many forum gets the ball rolling that way...

I agree on this part. It is evil but it will make your forum 'alive'
but it going to take heel of an effort. ask yourself, how long you could sustain talking to 'yourself' in your own forums with a few id

It is actually very hard to grow a new forum.

There are few very good examples of using competition to grow the forum. WickedFire.com and EarnersForum.com use this method to grow their forum from zero to thousands of member in a very very short time.

Personally, I feel that bringing traffic into a new forum is harder than setting up a community website like blog. Concentrate on a niche topic better than forum. I would say forum is getting out-dated very soon because their topic is to mass up.

Do you guys really, Google index forum lower than any blog? I guess you catch what I means.

Anyway, the cost of promoting a forum is higher than any blog. You need mroe ppl to be moderator. If it grow till big, very hard to control your content from public.

All this is my personal view only I u think it is suck, forget it :P

As told by AsiaPartTime! Hard to promote and this is not a personal view but a general view . I've told earlier also if you have some friends than you can go for it. And to make a forum successful, you need to keep on moderating - which is a 24Hrs business, I suppose.
My experience with forum is not that great. I got spam members posting all spams and had no other way but to stop it.

Anyway wish you every success with your new forum.

Is there a way to ask the community to auto-moderate for you? implement karma point / rating for each post in forum?

I own a forum, it is only 4 months old and I have a very good result already, ranking 208,032 in Alexa now.
My forum is a breastfeeding & parenting forum in Chinese language, there were nothing like this in M'sia b4, at least none in Chinese language.
I invite ppl from other forum, and I give them more freedom to speak than the other forum they used to visit.
I also invited a popular breastfed blogger, where she added a link to my forum in her blog, which attracts a number of ppl joining my forum.
Now I have a lot of loyal members who are addicted to my forum.
