How do you price text links? - 24-01-2008, 09:52 PM

How do you price text links? What is a fair rate? Lets say you have a PR 3 site, how much will you charge for a permanent text link on some of your pages?

Really do not know what is the going rate.

Hey, don't forget to check out the content of the site form which you want to buy a text link. It should be relevant to yours. Otherwise, it won't help with full capacity.

If the type of visitors it has are the same people looking for your content, it'll be ok. Otherwise, you may get traffic, but it won't make a high organic search engine ranking for you.

By the way, there are other methods which aren't so costly and you could have lots of control over the links yoou get. Besides, it could be one-way too.

In this case, people approach me and offer me $$$ to place text links on my sites.

I do not know what is a good offer and what is not, although not really keen to sell text links in the first place.

Well, first of all Google has banned paid links. So, beware of the people who want to pay you for publishing their links, because they may later report you as a site that sells links for passing page rank.

Secondly, if you have mechanisms helping you make sure who's asking you to do so, there are some factors you need to attend to before accepting to publish their links:
  1. Keep away from bad neighborhood! If the $$$ offering site spams search engines, you'd better reject its money.
  2. Deny publishing links to the websites whose content isn't relevant to yours! In this case, you're helping your own website's visitors by not sending them to irrelevant sites. Besides, you protect your credibility this way.
  3. See if it's worth posting a link to paying sites from your homepage! Your homepage usually gets the highest Google pagerank. By posting a link there, you're sharing it with that site.
  4. Don't go too far by selling such links to more than half a dozen of external links from each page! Posting more than some external links from your webpages causes page rank bleeding.

This is what I remember right now. I hope it could help you make up your mind.

Yeah thanks. I know Google don't like link selling, that's why I mentioned that. But, big (rich and powerful) websites can do it - no problemo....or so I noticed

That's life.

Google has got its rules for selling links:
  1. Buying or selling links to manipulate search engine results and deceive search engines are against Google's policies.
  2. According to Google, you can sell links for advertising purposes if you add a rel="nofollow" attribute to the href tag or redirect the link to a page which is blocked from searchengines with a robots.txt file.

We depend on search engines and have to obey their rules.

By the way, I've become interested in looking at your website. What's the address?
