I bought a reseller package and started my web hosting website, and currently I just hosted few personal websites... (friends and forum) and I feel it is quite hard for a web hosting resellers to compete with those big brothers like you all here. One thing is you guys are able to offer a lower price but for me, at least I have to cover the cost...

I feel myself doing the business are like more 'interest' oriented rather than earning money now...

I'm not a IT student and I don't have professional training as well...

First of all, please don't be upset about competing with others. Set your target, achieve it and you're successful.

If you really want competition, I suggest you put the pricing aside. Offering hosting packages at cheap prices doesn't mean it is the best host. Bear in mind that, except Exabytes, all the big brothers here in Malaysia are charging rather expensive. Thus, it can be said that pricing is not an important factor.

My advise to you is, try to perform your best in your service level. That is the most important thing to win your customers' heart.

anybody here started from a reseller then progress to a colo or a dedicated ?

If you are really interested to upgrade from a reseller hosting package to your own colo/dedicated, make sure you get yourself a good server administrator first.

I found that many hosters closed their doors because of their server administrator is not experienced. Thus, the server is not managed properly and always down. What's next? Customers running away and they have no way but to cease their operation due to the high expenses needed for a colo/dedicated server.
