well. u want to make ur computer as webserver?
Just install Apache, set up your webserver. You will be able to access files in your apache htdocs. normal Streamyx account is dynamic IP(except your accout has static IP), you can solve this problem by register a dynamic dns from website like http://www.no-ip.com . It is free. You will get a sub domain name which point to your server (your PC). ![]() If you have static IP, then things is easier. You can register a domain name, and point it to your static IP address. ![]() |

Server?
streamyx is nice, but maybe people will feel your server is slow because, streamyx only provide less than 2MB persecond for uploading and downloading. You will facing bandwidth problem too ![]() Price = RM 88 monthly, cheap ![]() But, if you placed your server at datacenter, e.g. idc, cyberjaya, their will provided you 3x155Mbps with unmetered bandwidth and 2 dedicated ips. 24/7 monitored and electricity. ![]() You only pay RM 300 monthly, if you subcribe from MercuMaya.Net For more details, log on to http://mercumaya.net/dedicated.php That's all. |

this is a non-technical opinion.
first, provide the user with the easiest method of payment. the one i can think of right now is trough maybank2u.com, so they can register it asap, without waiting for the next morning to que at bank for bank-in payment. (... exa-bytes? ) second, technical support. most of web hosting available in market is a non-user-friendly support. their motto is "What is cheap IS cheap". some of them are really annoying (and make me think of telekom). exa-bytes is my 4th web hosting, and i have to say that their technical support is excelent. they will answer anything, and provide me back with some technical explaination, so that i know what is going on, even if it is their fault. this is nice. three, give more to the user, or don't give anything at all! i hate the idea of 'package' which if you register with package one, you will only have a webspace and email, package two - with mysql, and package three - with telnet. this is really a turn-down selection. just give em all, but limit the capacity, so they can expand it without learning the new feature. and please give the user the power to customize their hosting base on THEIR need ![]() ... and maybe anyone else want to add? |

On technical side...
The server uptime is very important. You don't wanna your server down when you want to show your website or read your mails, do you? Most of the webhosting company claim to have over 99% uptime, but we will never know how truth it is before we try it. The speed is important. Who want a website took minutes to load? A fast speed webserver is desired. When I choose webhost, I consider(not in priority order): speed, others review, support, payment method, stability, uptime, package features. Normally, I will say NO to one-man-hosting company. They *may* not provide good support if anything goes wrong suddenly. |

well. dun forget, I am not in the this business. dun take it too seriously. :P
btw, you really need a good business plan at first. Why do you think that ppl will create their accout with you but not with other few thousands competitors? What are your advantages over others? etc... really have to think about it. Hope you success! ![]() |
