Move Websites To New Server
Hi,
What is the correct procedures to move a website to another new server, and minimize the website down time? Say, I have a website [ mywebsite.com ] at Server A, then later I want to move to another web hosting provider, Server B. What I will do is move the website data from Server A to Server B, then update the domain [ mywebsite.com ] DNS record. Is it correct? Thank you in advance.

1. Upload all your data to new server. Create email accounts.
2. Test the new server using IP / Virtual URL 3. Redirect DNS from old server to your new server (Need your web host help) 4. At the same time update DNS servers with your domain registrar. 5. Wait 1-3 days of DNS propagation.

Yes, change A record to your new server IP address.. So NO DOWNTIME.. this is important for database driven site..

well, no downtime but cannot update the website during the DNS propagation period... mmm.. :/

I believe most of the domain name registrar support at least 4 slot for DNS, add your new dns server (primary and secondary) in addition to your old one, once it is propagated, just remove the old dns.

If you got databese on it, just ask your Host to copy the whole website included Email, addon domain, and mysql to the new server. You must provide user name and password on this process. (WHM/Cpanel only, others not sure
 )

ermmm.. that process also can be done by yourself.. use cpanel backup to backup your "Home", "dBs" & "Aliases+Filters"

er... my question was concern on the DNS and downtime. Not transfer files.
