domain name server(DNS) is used to translate domain name to the server IP address.

For human, it is easier to remember google.com than remember 216.239.37.99, don't you?

IP address is for computer, domain name is for human. Therefore, we need a DNS to do the translation work.

You may install DNS software to make your own DNS at home. But, do you really need that?

I assume you are talking about creating own DNS label using own domain name and point it to your webhost DNS.

To create own DNS label, you login your domain name control panel and if your domain name registrar provide it, you will have an option to create DNS using the domain name.

Enter name for your DNS label and assign it to your webhost DNS IP address.

Later you may use your own domain DNS (ns1.mydomain.com) instead of your webhost DNS(ns1.webhost.com).

Why do that?
Well, it looks nicer. :P

Ya, ZoneEdit is good if you want to do dynamic dns with own domain name. If want simple and fast way, try www.no-ip.com and www.dyndns.org

AFAIK, Tmnet does not block *ANY* port. I have set up webserver at my home PC by using port 80 before, no problem.

ustazmalaya: When you want to load a webpage from webserver you send a HTTP REQUEST to ask for the file. If ok, the server will reply you by sending HTTP RESPONSE to you.

So, it looks like this:
YOU -- HTTP REQUEST --> SERVER
YOU <-- HTTP RESPONSE -- SERVER
