I'm looking for scalability in webhosts- so that I can upgrade if I need to. Share hosting will do for the time being, and target users are local.

maybe not SSL as 3rdparty processing/merchant accounts can handle that...

For starter, I will recommend to get a share hosting and an online merchant account(2checkout or paysystems will do).

Try to search in this forum, you will get rather cheap share hosting packages offered by WM members. The market price in WM is RM200/year for 100MB shared hosting(with web based control panel that have shopping carts software).

In fact, all webhosting package should already comes with user friendly control panel.

The cost of 2CO/Paysystems online merchant is merely about RM190(one time setup fee and no monthly fee). Domain name is about RM40/year for .com/.net/.org/.biz/.info

There are many good webhosting companies here. It is hard to tell the after sales service, uptime and support without try them first. The good thing is that most of the companies offer 30days money back guarantee. So, you can try for 1 month before decide.

Normally, locally hosted server can offer a more competitive hosting price.

Again, most providers support SSL. You can apply for a SSL Certificate and give the information to the provider to setup for you. If you are not ready to go for GeoTrust, get ChainedSSL.

Either cPanel, Plesk, Ensim or DirectAdmin is easy to use. Some hosts provide their own control panel with enhanced security, but with less features.

If you need a merchant account, look for authorize.net resellers.

I would like to correct lcf's statement. 2CO & MyPaysystems are 3rd party processing systems. Same goes to WorldPay.

In my opinion, you can just use a 3rd party processing system, unless you are going to accept a large amount of revenue every month, then you can look for a merchant account with less processing rate.

If we still think local, forget about 2CO or Paysystem because all this company won't accept Malaysian Ringgits for all transaction but I'm not sure about Worldpay.

Worldpay accept RM currency for their trancastion. But I'm not sure if this have to paid more as an additional. www.exabytes.com.my used worldpay with RM currency as an example. i'm never used worldpay and can't comment more...
