By theory, Unmetered means providers will not measure (or perhaps, allocate limited bandwidth) bandwidth taken up by each of the servers. However, this does not mean you can simply use up their bandwidth. Afterall, they are purchasing limited bandwidth. If they just allow you to simply use their bandwidth, that would be Unlimited bandwidth instead of Unmetered. My advise to you is, try to read through the TOC & AUP before you sign up for Unmetered servers. Some providers have strict policies on their term for Unmetered, because they want to maintain their quality bandwidth, while some don't. For running video upload/download/streaming, I would suggest getting a 1TB or 2TB (perhaps 10Mbps dedicated line) servers in US. I highly doubt you can do that locally or in the neighbouring countries (seems that Unmetered term is used widely within Asia only )Thanks. |

lcf: Legal files are okay. mind if I have a look at this site url you're talking about?
The reason I'm wanting Unmetered server myself is to host my client's videos (christina-dot-aguilera.net). Currently taking 25-30gb per mth.

Sorry for pondering. Which datacenter did get/colocate your server from? EXPAN, PacNet, DataOne, Starhub...? According to my experience, upstream providers in EXPAN offer bulk bandwidth that it is really considered unmetered. However, I am not sure whether their datacenters (there are 3 in Singapore) are simply to popular, or their equipments are not too advanced, they seemed to be DoS frequently. I have experienced thrice last year when I was with them. I was at Somerset Comcentre. PacNet seems to be better. We are dealing directly with them instead of going through upstream providers. So far none DoS or network problem since last December (our first server with them). However, seems that they are quite strict in their bandwidth policy that they never advertised unmetered bandwidth. As for another few, I'm not too sure about them and I would like to find out more from you if you hosted with them ![]() |

I'm not familiar with singapore services. Was introduced by my friend, a singaporean who's very familiar with them - www.1-net.com.sg, a mediacorp company. 1-net operate SingaporeONE broadband. So I assume these 'ONE' should refer to 'DataONE' you're talking about.
![]() As mediacorp group of company are long established firm, they should be reliable.. any idea? I used have one dedicated with AngelNetworkz which is now closed. I personally believe in choosing a strong financial sound provider. btw, they do have branch here in Malaysia www.d1asia.com.my

I'm afraid DataOne is not S-One. DataOne has its datacenters in more countries in ASEAN while S-One has its own in Singapore only. S-One has good local routing in Singapore and I still remember we had an extra S-One peer for local routing (Singapore) while our server was in EXPAN previously. They are pretty stable. Are you sure AngelNetworkz is closed now? Their site is still running http://angelnetworkz.net/ Although they do not have strong financial background if compared to other US big players, but I doubt they will close down so soon as they used to have strong supporters in WHT. Regarding to d1asia.com.my, it belongs to DataOne not S-One ![]() Thanks for sharing the news with us. |

Yes michealfoo. Angelnetworkz is down. They lease their server with Managed.com. I don't know what happened next; either Managed.com took over or something but I've moved with ThePlanet ASAP. http://www.hostingrefuge.com/showthr...?t=1997&page=1 - It was a very VERY bad experience! ns3/4.hivehosting.net is still pointing to them (btw, i can't remove this, any hint?)
![]() So anyway, I was wrong. 1-net has 3 gbps localy in Singapore. Thier backbones are from Singtel, Pacific net and StarHub.

lcf: Would you be honoured to my first customer on this server?
![]() I've seeked detailed FAQ. Bandwidth are unmonitered but as we all know Singapore has strict law over copyrighting. So be sure it's legal. It's better to ZIP or RAR it up as they might smell something fishy with high usage of bandwidth of all .mp3, .avi, .wmv, etc. Personal shoutcast are Ok! My offer are: 250mb at RM250 / year 500mb at RM300 / year 1000mb at RM500 / year P4 1.8Ghz, Redhat Enterprise 3 with Direct Admin Control Panel. Negotiable still.. and if you need customized web space ![]()

Regarding the NS, you can remove/edit them in your domain registrar's panel. Shouldn't be any big problem to change them if you have full access to the domain DNS settings. Are you sure it is running on STIX + PacNet + Starhub + S-One local routing? It sure sounds interesting with all the peers from the ISPs in Singapore to gather at that datacenter! Is that 1-Net you mentioned has all the peers? Thanks and sorry again, I find it very interesting. |
