Dedicated server needed

Hello everyone, i am wanting to get a dedicated server soon end of the year.

I was wondering anyone of u know where could i get a reliable dedicated server?
budget around 60-90 USD.

I thought these should be a spec of those budget low-mid range servers?

i have browse thru few sites recently and i found www.valueweb.com & www.managed.com. they do have these range of servers.
i heard they r large companies, but i am not sure about the reliability that's why i was hoping any one of u could suggest some good and reliable one for me.

Note about it is "managed" or "un-managed" dedicated server. Managed server will cost more.

Managed or unmanaged services varies from provider to provider.

Generally managed means they manage things like:

1. Installing upgrades
2. Applying patches
3. Ensuring server uptime
4. etc.

Unmanaged means you'll have to do them yourself.

but according to what i see, they have every software provided in it. Also, there is a package included like free 3 times reboot per month, free x times technical support and stuff.

but if i were to do it myself, do u think it is very hassle?

Yes. Dedicated servers will have all minimum necessary software installed in them when you make an order.

But please do not forget about software upgrades, security patches, etc...

If you are not well versed in linux it's best have someone else do them for you.

Managing a server is not an easy task. You'll spend quite some time on it.

Difference in price: Managed servers are more expensive than unmanaged. The price could be double the price of an unmanaged.

Difference in hassle: Managed servers let you sleep soundly at night whereas unmanaged servers... you have to make sure you manage it properly.

but with managed server i have nothing to worry?

No, the datacenter has to handle DoS. Different datacenters have different way of solving it. Big datacenters have enough peers to make sure that their whole network will not be affected by DoS on your server whereas small datacenters will usually take strict solution by solving DoS attack -- disconnect your server from their network.

For a managed server, usually they will arrange an admin to help you trace back the logs & help you verify who is the DoS (although it is not helpful) but for unmanaged server, you have to do everything by yourself.

Even for a managed server, you have to read their service level because not all datacenters cover all the services. Some provide only half of the service of another company, although both define it as Managed Service.

Finally, you can judge whether a server is managed or unmanaged from its pricing. It is significant enough to spot it. But I can tell you frankly that US$90/month won't get you any managed server. Also, you can email the provider to ask them whether the server they are offering is managed or not.
