CPanel Webmail problem

I'm trying to help someone who is having this problem with CPanel webmail.

Using IE6 on a Windows XP PC, User-1 can surft to http://companyname.com/webmail and use SquirrelMail to send and receive webmail with no problem.

Using IE5 (I think) on a Windows 2000 PCUser-2 can surft to http://companyname.com/webmail and go into SquirrelMail program, compose a new message but when the Send button is clicked, the email does not get send, that is, there is no copy of it in the Sent folder and the receipient does not get the email. The email just disappears.

User-1 can use the Win XP PC to login to User-2 webmail and send and receive with no problem, so it is not a User-2 webmail account problem.

However, if User-1 uses the Win 2000 PC, he has the same problem as User-2 as above.

So, it appears to be a problem with the Win 2000 PC.

I don't know exactly how the PCs are setup in the ofice, but I think the PCs are on a wireless network and sharing broadband connection.

I am guessing it is something to do with accessing port 2095 for webmail access. Perhaps there is a software firewall on the Win 2000 PC blocking the access? Or the firewall on the broadband router? However, as said above, User-2 can actually access SquirrelMail, but just not send out email.

Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

TIA

I think you are right about win2000pc is behind strict firewall. Both router and firewall could be the culprit.

Ask your network to open necessary ports in order to access Webmail. Most Cpanel servers operators have cpanel and webmail proxy that tunnels the neccesary ports to port 80 (http) to bypass firewall.
Open a support ticket and ask your hosting provider. Good luck.

P/s There is no know Cpanel Webmail access issues in current or stable build at this moment.

Thank you for your reply.

The thing about whether it is a possible firewall problem is that as I described, the user can actually get into SquirrelMail and compose a message. Only the sending out is the problem. If it was a blocked port problem, the user couldn't even get into SquirrelMail, right?

Send a message via ICQ to Ben-davis Send a message via Yahoo to Ben-davis
maybe the problem came from SquirrelMail itself? because i use neomail and it's working fine.

A technician who checked on the PC said there was a virus and removed it. Not sure which virus, something to do with a picture of a spider or something.

Anyway, emails could be sent after that with no problem.

Thank you all for helping.
