Why don't you go for VPS hosting first, much cheaper and have all the features like dedicated server

kat malaysia tak byk company yg offer VPS la, kalau ada pun mahal pun company pun tak penah dengar. Tapi kalau yg US punya byk, dlm RM 150.00 sbln pun dah boleh dpt yg ok

I'm having the problem with too many connections. I have the warning email from webhosting saying my domain is under because of too many connections and advice me to take a dedicated server. and my IP is blocked (I have a dedicated IP)

VPN is cheaper but they are still shared resource among their client. I asked godaddy about my case and they say

Virtual Dedicated hosting would allow much more when compared to shared hosting however, as the name implies it is still on a shared system in which resources will be allocated to the partition that needs more resources. If too much is needed you may be asked to control the amount of visitors you can allow at a time. In this case a Dedicated Server would suit your needs and more since you are on a system all by yourself and all system resources will be yours to control.

Godaddy's dedicated server's price is $109/month. It's pretty expensive for me. I'm reviewing a few company which offer price from $70 - $90/month. Anyway, I think I'm going to take one from hivelocity.net for price $70+. I read some good comments about hivelocity at webhostingtalk.com

i also run a topsite b4.. but closed it because high bandwith laa..
unmetered bandwith hosting? but warn u using then? hermmm..

too many connection's refer to Sql or what aa?..

"too many connections" is refer to connections to the IP. maybe this is because I have a image that put on other people websites. If 100 sites showing the image at the same second, I will have 100 of connection to my IP at that moment ..

@ webber - $79.90 is just for the server, but you still have to pay for control panel license. And believe it is Celeron 2 processor. And one more thing, although VPS is still a shared hosting, its give you a fair amount, lets say you choose for a guaranteed 256MB ram, you will get that. The vps system will allocate a fair amount of resources among all the account.

although they guarantee you will have 256Mb, they still have the limit on other resources (eg total visitors that can connect to your site at one time).

besides, if I have the dedicated server, i can rent part of the space to friends cheaply and the rental can cover part of the server cost

Let say I offer 20 friends with 1G space 25G for RM10/month each, then I will have 20 * RM10 = RM200 (200/3.7 = about USD54). And this will cover most of server fees already and I still have 20G space and 500G bandwidth anyway, this only a plan

I suggest you look at fdcservers.net plans. They are quite reliable now unlike last time. Their uptime isn't as bad as last year. Besides if you want big bandwidth they have plenty and throws in any Control Panel of choice for free.

make sure the service is good, backup, down time, speed, reserved space for upgrade etc. Cost is the last matter
