Help Needed: Hosting Wordpress

Hi, good day. This is my first post and it's gonna be on sth serious...

I would like to blog using wordpress and host it under a paid hosting. My concerns are:

1) How many web space will I need? I'm planning to include only pics (20%) and text contents (80%). And probably some ads <-- are they going to take up spaces anyway?

1) My target is to get 5000 unique visiotrs per day. How many bandwidth will I need? For a blogging site, how much is enough? 3GB? 5GB? 10GB?

I would appreciate if some1 can hlp me with this. Thanks.

Hi tthmaz,

For your information, cPanel hosting's diskspace limitation is only for your file storage. It is unable to limit your database size. Thus, you have more space to grow and you only need to concern on how much space you need for your pictures because the text contents will be stored in mySQL database, which you are free to use as much space as possible that is available on the web server.

It is very hard to judge how much bandwidth you need but I suggest you to start with around 3GB first and you may upgrade again when you really need more bandwidth.

Still a bit of doubt here... Where does all the tags/scritps goes then? Are they stored into the database as well?

I mean usually people write their pages and save it as *.html/*.php/*.asp, but i'm not sure how wordpress does this... If like u've said, then no point if i go find a large webspace such as 500MB ~ 1GB ???

They are stored into the diskspace. Anyways, they are small in size and they will not grow in time unless you put in custom skins.

Wordpress uses its template to retrieve the data from its database. Thus, all the articles are stored in database storage.

You don't need large webspace unless you're going to load your site heavily with graphics/images.

Most web host now offer at least 500MB of disk space, this is far more then enough for you to start with and keep growing for many months (or perhaps years).

if your web page is 100KB in size per page, 5000 visitors will consume (100KB x 5000 = 50, 000KB) approximately 50MB per day per page.

30 days = 30 x 50MB = 1500MB (approx 1.5GB).

You may start with 5GB - 10GB bandwidth package to be save.

1. it won't get over 10mb from start, you can believe me as it grows bigger & longer, it's nicer to have bigger space from 100mb to 1gb depends on how long do you want to keep your blogs history.

2. bandwidth depends on your usage.
