recommend for company's website hosting

just asking around, my boss has a small designing-related company, and would like to purchase a website hosting. maybe he'll include a small portfolio there.

question is, can anyone please recommend a good, fast, reliable website hosting, but maybe not too expensive? .. other than exabytes?

Hello,
First of all, who are your targetted audiences? If you have international visitors, a US server is suitable for you, while if you have local visitors, you should look for either a Malaysia or Singapore server. I believe this is the first considering factor for your web hosting package. The reason is because "fast" may be applicable to you when you visit the site, but if you have international audiences, accessing the "fast" (in this sense a local server) site may not be the case for them.

Secondly, what programming languages are used in your company's web site? Do you use ASP, ASP.Net & MSSQL? If you do, you'll need a Windows hosting account. Otherwise, if your site is a plain static or dynamic site with PHP, Perl & mySQL, go for Linux hosting account by all means. Linux hosting accounts are generally a lot cheaper than Windows hosting account.

As for the price, it is a very subjective matter. My advice to you is, try hunting around. Usually the theory "what you paid is what you get" applies.

1st) Money
2nd) Facility
3rd) Tech Support
What is your budget? if money is no problem so go the the 2nd point. what facility do you want? do they provide it? does the server fast enough? if they give you cheap price but the speed like turtle, worth it? and the most important is tech support, when you have problem with your site. will they help you? do they provide 24/7 phone support? If they provide 24/7 support, anytime when you call them, they should pick up the phone.

anyway..i read some nasty feedback about Hive Hosting..how are they now ? still the same ? or have improve ? can anyone help me with those two ?!

If you yourself feel it is "too good to be true" then I think you'll know what's the answer Anyways, again no harm giving them a try if you really need that much of space. Think about it, unless you're going to use the online storage to keep your photos and computer backup files (remember no MP3s), probably you'll need the 10GB. However, if you just want to develop a web site, anything with around 100MB is more than enough. Just for your information, cPanel does not count your mySQL database size usage in the allocated diskspace: you're free to let your dynamic web site grow as the database occupies only the server space but not your account space
