Help me decide which web host?

Dear all,

Thank you so much for dropping by and read my post.
I really need you guys to help me decide which web host is more value for money, considering this is the 1st time I'm getting my own domain.

This new domain is going to be something like a community site, thus, it requires large space and bandwidth, and the audience is going to be "the whole world"...haha I know that's a bit greedy, but who cares?!

I've done the research for the past few months, but still cannot make up my mind on which one to choose from, so please gimme a hand, I will start with the one I like the most. So which one of these is the best choice?
1.HostMonster
2.IXwebhosting
3.HostGator
4.BlueHost
5.StartLogic

And just one more quick question, should I get a dedicated hosting considering all my greedy factors?

Heh, relax.

Start with small package. Most hoster allow you to uppgrade, so from small you go big. This will save you money.

If you site is big and require a lot of server resources, then you should go for a dedicated hosting.

Dear Chris,

Building community does not go popular within one night or one month. Better you go for shared hosting. From there you can slowly build your portal. Why waste resources when you do not really use it ?

Upgrading package or service is just matter of few clicks

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will definitely start with small package & upgrade later, but can I also ask you one question?

If I register my domain with registrar, and then get it hosted with one of the webhosts, when I wanna renew my domain, I will go thru the same registar again or thru' webhost?

Meaning that, is the domain transferred to the webhost right after I get it hosted with them? If that's case, why don't I just directly go to the webhost since they offer free domain?

I hope you get what I mean, my english sucks big time.

If you directly register a domain under a registrar, then the renewal should be under same registrar. However, if the webhoster buy the domain from you, 99% the domain billing will be done by the webhoster itself.

Yes. But make sure you do the domain setting right and point it to your new webhoster

If that's case, why don't I just directly go to the webhost since they offer free domain?
Free ... better buy yourself. Sometime webhoster tend to keep the domain. It is because they can keep it as hostage, so you cannot go to other hosting.
Better buy the domain yourself.

Let say, the domain become popular and worth RM 10 million. Some webhoster will just sell the domain to someone (because they have access to your domain remember ?)
