Red face Help! Need to Find Another Host Urgently!

Hello guys,

As some of you might know, I started my website / blog about male celebrities a few months ago (in late June to be exact). I'm a total beginner at this hosting and stuff so I took the most basic shared server package at IPServerOne which cost about RM99 per year (30GB bandwidth). Within 3 months, as the site became quite known, I needed the extra bandwidth so I upgraded to the RM199 per year package (60GB bandwidth).

Few days ago, I received an email from them stating they cannot host my site on their shared server anymore since it took too many CPU and memory resources. They suggested that I upgraded to dedicated server package. Ideally I don't mind except the cost is quite overwhelming (RM400+ per month) since the site is only less than 6 months old and not making as much profit.

Can anyone of you web sifoos suggest or advise what host provider and package should I turn to? I'm really clueless and desperate to move since the IPServerOne only gave me 7 days to move to dedicated server or be refunded. The site currently using about 60GB+ bandwidth per month (and increasing), about 2k uniques & 7k pageloads per day if these figures helps.

Thanks so much in advance! I really need all the help I can get!

Regards

Intresting site with creative inventions. Congrats. Well I'm not too good to choose a hosting. Here what I can say is the reason ipserveone cant hold anymore your site in their shared hosting because your site is full of images. It hogs the server memory to load all those big images. So what I can say here is maybe you can host your images to third party hosting. Maybe flickr? This will reduce the server load. Cause you may face the same problem with the new webhosting soon. Unless you find US base hosting that really reliable.

Hello,

Eventually yhis type of website needs dedicated server. Shared hosting enviroment could not handle this type of traffic anymore.

US based hosting is realiable but they also have CPU limitation usage which is same as IPSERVERONE.com. So, there is no different.

Thank you,

Exactly. Any shared hosting environment provider will have CPU limitation usage.

Well, frankly I never heard my friends appear to face this problem. Eventhough the material is same like squarehippies. Lot of digital images. Big files size. I think his host is bluehost.com.

Thanks so much for the info guys. This means that I will never get to use a shared server no matter how big the bandwidth is, since the site require more processing power to load the images right? I never thought of this since my plan was just for a simple personal weblog at first.

It's quite hard for me to filter down the content since the main focus of the website are images (and loads of them). What are the options other than dedicated server? What about semi-dedicated server or VPS? My budget is within <RM100 per month, or maybe I could venture into sponsorship option through ad placement since the site is doing increasingly well by day and the reach is global. Moreover, there's not many ads on the site so a banner ad placement would be eminent.

Appreciate your feedback guys!

Anyway fivio and startsearcher since you both are webmaster, cant you implement limit resources for every client? What I mean is the quota usage for every client. It's like one client only provided with sum of processor usage. So they cant overlimit the usage. Is that possible?

Hello,

It is hard to limit the CPU resources unless your are in VPS enviroment. Because in Shared hosting, you charge the customer by using the space and Bandwitdh. However, in VPS you charge them in space + bandwitdh + CPU + RAM.

If you limit the resources in Shared hosting, it does not called shared hosting anymore

Thank you,

Hi squarehippies,

You can used VPS until you making money enough to jump to dedicated server. VPS has their own CPU limitation and it will not affect other clients. The cons site is you site is low whenever you reach the limit of the CPU usage.

You can try a2b2 hosting cause the owner is my fav's.

Hello,

However, please aware that VPS requires some basic server administration knowledge. Unless you are purchasing Fully managed VPS then you should have no problem However, for managed VPS, the monthly cost is quite high compared to unmanaged. So please be careful in choosing the right package.

Thank you,

It also good for a stepping stone for you to manage your own server when you upgrade to dedicated server.

From the look at your site, and the statistic, my personal recommendation is shared hosting would works well enough.

I have much larger site ( that eats up way more bandwidth and resource than yours) hosting on shared environment, not so much luck with the local webhost though, I host it with U.S host.

If your target visitors are not majorly from Malaysia, try dreamhost, site5, or mediatemple

Hello,

From your recomendation, it would be better if you select mediatemple.net rather than dreamhost and site5. You can read their horrid service in Webhostingtalk.com

The CPU limitation policy is different among the hosting provider. You can;t blame or compare IPSERVERONE on this. IPSERVERONE have a strong reason why he suggest dedicated server to him.

Thank you,

As I know, now Dreamhost does not limit cpu usage.

Hi guys,

Just an update, I decided to go with Exabytes shared server (100GB bandwidth) for now. So far there has been no problem, but we'll see. I know that sooner or later the site needed a dedicated server but until my income is stable, I'll try to stick with the shared one first.

One question though, exactly what process require CPU usage most? Is it the loading of the images or the comments? I use javascript for the comments because the site didn't utilize any CMS (I did everything manually). Is that causing the all the load?

Thanks for all your help!
