which is better? US or msia webhosting?
Hi,
I have money stuck in paypal, so plan to use it to pay for hosting of my website. Am currently comparing the available options. Any advice, which is better in terms of cheap and reliability and support.. Malaysian webhosting or US based webhosting? [must take into account pay via paypal] Also..anyone using globat / blue host / site build it? can share your experience? Anyone signup for the 6.95/yr domain name with lucky register services? They give free hosting..so it this worth it? ------------------ Need more money? Join here |

dynadot and godaddy sell domains using paypal. I'd burn it up on investment domains if I were you.
And don't sell Paypal credit as it's illegal under Malaysian law and against Paypal's TOS.

I don't think only Exabytes accepts it. I know I do and a lot more out there does accept it. But then again, that's another story and I'm not going to advertise over here.
Anyway, the way to choose who to host with is : 1. Depending on your majority viewers. Some hosting companies have servers in both Malaysia and US, so choose well. 2. Bandwidth requirements (if you need a lot bandwidth it's better to go to the US as bandwidth is cheaper there) 3. How much processing power you need for your page. Usually those are the questions between what you should ask yourself when you want to choose where to host. If you have a lot of viewers internationally, then US server is the best choice as most lines will actually go through the USA somehow. So getting a hosting there is better. If your viewers are mostly in Malaysia and you're a company which deals locally, then it's good to get a local server instead. That way, you can get fast connection and your clients will have fast and easy access to your site. Usually, bandwidth is a lot cheaper in the US compared to Malaysia so the more bandwidth you need, then more inclined you are to the US server. Same goes for processing power. Usually hardware is a lot cheaper in the US as compared to local. Personally, we have a Dual Xeon in our DC in the US which I bought for only about US$700 but when its to be bought in Malaysia, it's costing about RM4XXX. So usually US servers could be better without more money attached to it. Hope this helps you out a little bit in your quest to choose where a server should be located at which would be best for you. |

Hello,
Overall view, USA is much more better than Malaysia in term of network quality. However, in the point view of Streamyx, Malaysia hosting is better. The international links from Malaysia to USA are usually unstable. There is no solid connection can be done if a customers using a streamyx. I do not want to condemn the TMNET products. But, since majority of Malaysian using streamyx or TMNET dialups, it is better to use local servers. Unless you willing to endure the latency problem. Thank you,

Besides Malaysian servers, there are always Singapore servers. Let's not see this from the point of view of patriotism. ![]() Thanks. |

US vs Msia-based servers
This is a common concern for my customers when noticing how fast local-hosted sites can be when you're on the same network backbone, ie. TMNET (streamyx), compared to US-hosted site.
The respond would be, who would make up the larger portion of your site audience, Malaysia or International visitors? If your target audience are Malaysians in Malaysia, your ideal choice would be Malaysia-based server. Otherwise, consider that 80% or so of world internet traffic and internet-connected servers are in the land of USA although the traffic and numbers of servers are growing fast in Europe and Asian countries like China, Japan and Korea. This would be for the immediate benefit of your own when you're starting small. Unless patriotism beats everything and you're willing to suffer for it Imagine something like Taiwan earthquake happens again, and your website gets unreachable by 99% of world population...If you're big, of course, you'd do mirroring and problem is solved ;-). But with the recent brouhahas of continued press control including stupid proposal to register all local bloggers, you'd think twice about being patriotic and keeping the little money in your own country. Just my 2-cent. |
