Your Experience with Exabytes

I'm disappointed. Really. I'm looking for others hosting company. No more local company.

Could you explain more on what you are disappointed with? Have you contacted them to get any problems sorted out?

currently I'm using ebiz linux plan. For the past 2 weeks (starting frm CNY), the site seem lousy to load. Too bad coz I'm starting to like 'em.

To check your site uptime, use siteuptime.com and to check other domain hosted on the same server used http://www.dnslocator.com

Do they charge for installing SSL cert?

It should be great to have less than 3 seconds of downtime per month.

Do you mind giving me your domain name so that I can check for you? You can PM me also.

yes, we do charge a one-time RM 95 setup & installation fee. For more details, you can refer to http://www.exabytes.com.my/products/ssl/

I just want to share my experience with exabytes. I 1st started using Exabytes in 2001 (back then their office was at Gurney Tower, very small office). Back then, even though they were not a big company, but their server were always fast and relaible. Down time were kept to a minimum.

However since last year, their service has deteriorated very badly. The website will usually be down at around 4:00-6:00 in the evening (if its not down, the load time would be very slow). And I am not even going to mention about the e-mail loading time. Its slow 24/7. My brother told me that its better not to have a website than having one that is always down and even when its up, it load s slowly.
This is my personal website. The company that I am working in also uses exabytes, and they have having a very bad time (I know becuase I and my collegue have to deal with the pissed off customers!).

It was so bad that we had no alternative but to look elsewhere.

I have already complained numerous times, but they always blame TM(if TM is so lousy, then why other local websites are not having the same problem).
have no doubt that their support is excellent (if your website is down in the middle of the night, at least u can still call them a screw the kaw2 )

If you are looking for a good Linux hosting, then I highly recommend IPServerone.com. They are much better compared to exabytes.

The reason why I am posting is because I am looking for a good webhoting company that provides Windows hosting (with SQL Server 2005).

Thank you.

Hi flymb,

The cause of the slow loading of your website is due to the Apache error log has been filled up in the last 2 weeks and the Linux file system for the server is having a limitation of 2GB of file size. When this limit is reach, Apache cannot write further errors into the log and thus will cause a slow processing of further http request that comes in.

We have rectified the issue and also have a custom script setup to monitor on the error log on the server.

Yes Andy, I've got a lot of accounts with Exa and while not frequent - I've had quite a number of server slowdowns / hang-ups, all caused by the huge log files. Response is fast - your staff will get it solved very quickly but it's not good if the same problems happen over and over again.

It'd be good to have an automated monitor on ALL the hosting accounts so the problems don't even occur in the first place.

Hi MikeTee,

Welcome to WebmasterMalaysia forum!!!

To answer to your questions. Each domains are having a separate log file created by the apache server on the server side. However, the file size is still limited to 2GB of limitation. Though this is the limitation, if abc.com log file size hits 2GB, it won't affect cde.com as both domains are having their own identical log file which wont crash with the Apache services. In this case, abc.com may face some slowness or even hang for the website loading as you said due to the file size has limit.

Though there's an option for us to configure to auto rotate the log files for each domain after each day stats update, we have not implement this. Reason is that it will create some difficulties for our security team member to perform security audit whenever an exploit or hacks has been attempted on the domain via HTTP. Without the log, we won't be able to trace on how the exploits comes in.

Scripts for the error_log monitoring has been configured for the servers as a 5 minutes cron job to ensure the Apache services wont crash when the size has reached the limit. We will be researching more options to overcome this kind of situation in a long run.

I hope the above answer to your questions.
