I still rememeber the havoc caused by the earthquake in Taiwan a couple months back ............ most overseas sites are slow or not accesible but my sites remain fast

You might want to consider whether your users are mostly from Malaysia or overseas

You need to ask yourself, where are your visitors from? If your site receives mostly overseas visitors, you will need a US server, otherwise, a local server will be better for you.

Yes, but you forgot to take into consideration that your site that is up and running, appears down to the international visitors.

Thanks.

When you say "service provider", are you referring to your current hosting company? Or are you referring to your ISP?

Local servers are definitely faster for local users. The main problem seems to be finding a reliable DC and company which provides good support. The level of support here is lacking. The quality of the DCs here can be much better.

In fact, this whole day, there seems to be some sort of network issue at the CyberJaya1 (Myloca) DC.

Hello,

For me the support are good for the TMNET technician.

1. They informed me about our server downtime
2. Give notice of DDOS attack
3. Give notice of the servers alerts

For me, this proactive support are good

The only problem is the infrastructure of the datacenter and of course their new policy. Other than that everything is good in local datacenter.

Thank you,

Pro-active support is good. I was not necessarily referring to support from the DC itself. I guess if you are a dedicated or colocated client, support will be different from that given to the a shared hosting client. I was also referring to support given by hosting companies to end-user clients.

Which DCs are you using? Could you describe more what you meant by "new policy" above?

My main sites are targeted for Malaysians

I've got a site mostly visited by those from US and Europe ppl .... and there were no difference in the number of visitors during January and February .... maybe bcos most Asians were asleep when the traffic is coming from US and Europe

Hello,

Mylinear, it is because you said 'a reliable DC and company which provides good support'. So I thought that you referring to TMNET.

Thank you,

Dear Tasya,

TMNET upgrade better connection, still use local. Because if the network is upgraded, oversea client can connect to our local network better. So, why go US ?

Thank you,

Apart from local servers, does anyone use servers eg from Singapore or Hong Kong or similar closeby countries? Any feedback on those?

Yes, we have servers in Singtel EXPAN.

We have experience with QALA and EXPAN. QALA offers better local network (within Singapore) but Singtel EXPAN gives better international connectivity. For this reason, we use EXPAN now.

Thanks.
