OK ... let me just write a little bit about making money with your website.

First and foremost, there are two ways that you can earn money with your website WITHOUT having to sell anything.

- Affiliate programs
- Advertising ... let's just focus on Adsense

The first that you would need to have is a website. That's easy coz I suppose that we are all webmasters here. I believe you should be able to make website, be it a lousy one. You don't need a very cool website design anyway. A clean simple design would do. Apart from your website, you would a web hosting and domain name. Exa-Bytes is good (credit to the host).

When you have a website, it's about getting targetted traffic. My definition of targetted traffic is people that are genuinely interested with the content of your website. There are several ways that you can get this. Here are the things that I have done.

- Search engine optimization
- Participating in forums
- Pay per click advertising

About getting the revenue, you can use any affiliate programs that you think are reputable. Just make sure that the affiliate program that you choose compliment or related to the content of your website. For example, when you have a website about car engines, you can promote books from Amazon relating to cars. Recommended affiliate programs are like CJ.com, Linkshare, Amazon, TigerDirect.com, etc ...

And then, you can also put up Adsense, the ads program by Google. My experience with them has been very good. I don't really earn much from Adsense but so far I have been surpassing the monthly cheque minimum of $100 USD.

OK ... now, that you have a website, my advice is, make another ... then another ... then another ...

Even if you earn $5 from a website a day with Adsense, if you have 10, you are earning $50 per day. That you would be $1500 a month and about RM 5000++.

So .... there you go. What I would like to say here is ...

It's not so much about the affiliate program that you join, but more importantly how well you are in getting the targetted traffic.

Very infomative briefing kidino. Your would like to add something. If you sign-up with google adsense, to be tempted to click the ads your self in order to generate more revenue for your site. Google have a very strict policy about this and if they find out (trust me they will) about this, your account will be disable and all your balance revenue will not payable to you.

But alternatively you can try marketbanner.com, focusIN etc.

some people who looking for an easy way of making money on the internet would probably do that - clicking the ads yourself. DON'T DO THAT.

you know that when you do that, you are not being honest to yourself. do you really deserve that few cents that you click? well, apart from that, it's truely that you are stealing from the advertisers. the advertisers are looking for genuine visitors while you are not ... you are just taking their money and even the information on their site is of no value to you. imagine you are the merchant ... what result will you get from free clickers?

it is sad that some people do this to the extent that Malaysians are labeled as country with serious number of fraud cases. Some service providers no longer accept memberships and transactions from Malaysians. to name a few ... CJ.com, Clickbank.com, etc ...

please stop this and earn the money honestly ...

I found that most of the webmasters that i know dont really care about bringing in profit using their website, and not many of them care to learn also.

I got a friend buy website for hobby only(even no visitor, he will still keep updating), some ppl build for traffic only, for me, i'll keep working on it untill good profit come in.

Plan for long term, to develop a site, to bring in traffic is a long process, my advice is same as you guys also, be honest and work hard for long term plan.

By the way, do anybody have some idea how many page for a website to be consider good (more than average)?

I read somewhere that a good website should have at least 20 page... it is true?

yup ... i agree with that. what you need is really content ...

but i also have a website with about 7 pages where i leverage on the keyword of a popular brand that is usually misspelled ... now is generating about 50 uniques per month ... doing moderately OK from adsense and some sales once in a while on CJ

heh? 50 unique per month still doing ok in adsense? Wow, that impress me, my site have 1,000 plus visitors per day but yet the income from adsense is not equal to it. Just got about 100 clicks from the 1,000 visitors

I think it depend on topic also, some topic might have good advertisement but some topic may not. My site (www.pet-cockatiel.com) get about 500 to 600 unique visitor per month but the result is not that good.

I wonder is there anyway for a weblog to earn money?
AFAIK, google adsense does not accept personal blog. Last time I apply it but kena rejected.

My weblog currently has 2K unique visits per month and growing.

@ lcf - don't say that its personal blog in application form though. Just say its a blog, they might accept it. From what I see its not personal blog.

And to really get good revenue from google, your site must have at least 500 visitors per day. Unless all your visitors will click on your ads, from my experience only 10% from them will do, so lets say that your site got 3,000 visitors per month or 300 per day, its still not enough. You might get less than $0.50 per day. I have experience on that, unless you ask you visitors to click which is breach the google terms @ policy
